How to uninstall Go Browser on Mac
Choose the browser you want links to open in before removing Go Browser. Its official description identifies it as a URL chooser for installed browsers and other clients, so keep Safari, Chrome and their profiles. This guide covers the Mac App Store app, not those separate browsers.
Restore link opening and save settings
If Go Browser is your default URL handler, choose an installed browser in System Settings › Desktop & Dock › Default web browser, following Apple's instructions. Open a link to check the result before removing the chooser.
Quit Go Browser and any attributed OpenWith helper, then copy the existing ~/Library/Containers/com.mac.utitlity.OkaOpenWith to an independent private backup if keeping its settings. Verify the copy before clearing originals. Move Go Browser.app from Applications to the Trash in Finder, and check System Settings › General › Login Items & Extensions for an unwanted helper entry. A renewable VIP subscription must be managed separately.
Review recorded local data
The test identified the main container above and ~/Library/Application Scripts/com.mac.utitlity.OkaOpenWith. Open existing entries with Finder's Go › Go to Folder after quitting and remove only unwanted confirmed-owned data after backup checks. Keep parent directories and other browsers' bookmarks, passwords and profiles.
Check the result
pgrep -ifl 'Go Browser|OpenWithHelper'
ls -ld "$HOME/Library/Containers/com.mac.utitlity.OkaOpenWith"
No process match means this pattern found no matching arguments; identify a surviving match before quitting it. A printed container remains, expected if retained. A missing-path error means that exact folder is absent; permissions or command errors leave the result unknown. This query does not verify which app now opens links, so test a link separately.
What Mole lists
The exact main scripts folder is selected by default. Check the main container's actual row before removing it: an ordinary owned app-data row starts selected, while a row marked as protected browser data follows its own restriction and can remain unavailable for selection. Back up and uncheck wanted selectable state. Turning on Remove data and settings with apps does not unlock protected browser data, and these named app rows do not own other browsers' profiles.
What this test covered
The Mac App Store installation was removed on September 21 and retested on September 26, 2026. The later Go Browser 1.0.29 run removed the app and selected original container/scripts paths. Default-browser restoration, populated chooser settings, VIP cancellation and backup recovery were not tested.
