How to uninstall GeForce NOW on Mac
Before removing GeForce NOW, save and copy your local captures and game saves that need independent backup to a separate backup, then open the copy. This guide covers the official Mac download; Homebrew-specific removal is separate below.
End your game session and confirm wanted saves with the game’s own cloud-save system before removing the client. Copy local captures outside any sync root and open the copy. Uninstalling does not cancel a paid membership. The NVIDIA membership terms say recurring paid plans renew until changed to a free plan; manage that in your NVIDIA account. Cancelling a separate persistent-storage plan deletes its contents at the end of its billing cycle, so check saves before changing that plan.
Quit and remove the app
Finish current work and quit GeForce NOW. Check Activity Monitor for its process before removing the app in Finder. In Applications, move GeForceNOW.app to the Trash; if you keep it elsewhere, use its actual location. Keep the Trash until your backup has been checked. Official documentation
Review local data
The locations below come from the test record or the live cask; their individual treatment is explained below. Open them through Finder’s Go › Go to Folder. Copy wanted contents first; leave them if you want to keep settings or cannot establish ownership. They are optional data removal, not a prerequisite for removing the app.
~/Library/Application Support/NVIDIA/GeForceNOW~/Library/Caches/NVIDIA/GeForceNOW
Check the result
This read-only check searches full process command lines, not disk contents.
pgrep -ifl 'GeForceNOW|nvcontainer'
No output with exit status 1 means no matching command line was found. A printed entry needs inspection in Activity Monitor because names can match unrelated processes. An error is not proof of removal. Also check that the app is absent from its original Finder location; a retained data folder or independent component does not mean the app is still installed.
If you installed it with Homebrew
Use the installed cask receipt and uninstall without zap.
brew uninstall --cask nvidia-geforce-now
Ordinary uninstall quits GeForce NOW and signals its nvcontainer process. The live cask additionally names these zap targets, which can erase settings, local data or integration files; this is Homebrew’s list, not a vendor data-location claim.
~/Library/Application Support/CrashReporter/GeForceNOWContainer_*.plist~/Library/Application Support/NVIDIA Corporation/MessageBus_GFN_session*.conf~/Library/Application Support/NVIDIA/GeForceNOW~/Library/Caches/com.apple.nsurlsessiond/Downloads/com.nvidia.gfnpc.mall~/Library/Caches/com.nvidia.nvcontainer~/Library/Caches/NVIDIA/GeForceNOW~/Library/HTTPStorages/com.nvidia.gfnpc.mall~/Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports/GeForceNOWContainer*.crash~/Library/Preferences/com.nvidia.gfnpc.mall.helper.plist~/Library/Preferences/com.nvidia.gfnpc.mall.helper.renderer.plist~/Library/Preferences/com.nvidia.nvcontainer.plist~/Library/Saved Application State/com.nvidia.gfnpc.mall.savedState~/Library/Application Support/NVIDIA~/Library/Caches/NVIDIA~/Movies/NVIDIA
~/Library/Application Support/NVIDIA, ~/Library/Caches/NVIDIA and ~/Movies/NVIDIA are parent folders handled only with Homebrew’s empty-directory rmdir action; do not recursively delete them.
A direct brew uninstall --cask --zap nvidia-geforce-now runs its own zap scope without consulting Mole’s checkboxes. Mole uses zap only when the complete scope passes its gate; unchecked or shared paths, paths outside the review boundary, unknown stanzas and unsupported directives suppress it. Selected remnants still use Mole’s deletion path.
What Mole lists
Cask-imported ~/Library/Application Support/NVIDIA/GeForceNOW and ~/Library/Caches/NVIDIA/GeForceNOW are review targets, not blanket NVIDIA removal. Cask-only rows are not selected by default; an independently matched row keeps its own selection state. The NVIDIA parent folders stay outside product-leaf cleanup.
These defaults assume “Remove data and settings with apps” is off. Opting in also selects eligible reviewed app data; shared stores and protected data retain individual review or stay locked.
What this test covered
The September 23, 2026 record covers the following test. The official app was launched without signing in. The two GeForceNOW product leaves listed through Homebrew zap were selected and removed; empty NVIDIA parent directories were kept. Cloud gaming, cloud saves, membership cancellation and paid storage were not tested.
