How to uninstall Fathom on Mac

Download wanted Fathom recordings before removing its Mac app. For meetings with a recording, the download guide uses Dashboard › meeting › three dots › Download Video to save an MP4. Open the saved file and keep it outside sync/removal folders; save wanted transcript and summary separately. A shared call needs the owner's standard or admin access to expose the download option.

Disconnect capture, then remove the app

The official Mac uninstall guide distinguishes the desktop app, Zoom integration and account. If you enabled automatic recording or automatic requests for recording consent, disable those options at Fathom's customization page when you want future capture stopped.

If you enabled the Zoom app, go to Zoom Marketplace › Manage › Installed Apps, find Fathom, choose Uninstall and confirm Uninstall. Finish any live meeting recording, quit Fathom and copy wanted existing ~/Library/Application Support/Fathom outside all sync and removal roots before moving Fathom.app from Applications to the Trash in Finder.

Local app removal does not delete cloud meetings or cancel a plan. Account deletion is a separate irreversible action: the vendor says all account data is permanently deleted, so do not use it merely to remove the desktop app.

If you installed it with Homebrew

The cask asks Fathom Helper and Fathom to quit, then removes its managed app without zap:

    brew uninstall --cask fathom

Zap also removes ~/Library/Application Support/Fathom and ~/Library/Logs/Fathom. Back up wanted local state first. Direct brew uninstall --cask --zap fathom ignores Mole's checkboxes. Mole uses zap only when its whole scope passes selection, ownership and safety checks; selected remnants otherwise use its own Trash flow. Neither command disconnects your Zoom account integration or changes automatic-recording options.

    Check the result

    pgrep -ifl fathom
    ls -ld "$HOME/Library/Application Support/Fathom" "$HOME/Library/Logs/Fathom"

No process match means no arguments matched this pattern. A surviving process needs its path checked; a printed folder remains, expected if retained. Missing-path errors concern only those folders, while other errors are inconclusive. Check the Zoom integration and automatic-recording options separately; these local checks do not prove cloud data deletion or meeting export recovery.

    What Mole lists

Display-name support and log rows need review, starting unchecked with Remove data and settings with apps off; turning it on can preselect eligible unshared app data. Keep wanted local state unchecked after copying it. App removal does not disconnect account integrations, and system-managed recent-document records are not a reason to delete a shared Apple database.

    What this test covered

On September 22, 2026, the official-download Fathom 3.8.1 app was copied into Applications, launched and removed with its selected support folder. A recent-document record remained. Meeting capture/export, cloud/account changes, Zoom disconnection and Homebrew were not tested.

If Mac apps leave files behind after uninstalling, try Mole. I've personally tested and inspected 799 Mac apps.
