How to uninstall Farrago on Mac

Export the sound sets you want to keep before uninstalling Farrago. The app stores its own copies of imported sounds, so the original audio files alone do not preserve your tile settings. This guide covers the official Mac app and Homebrew cask farrago.

    Export sets before quitting

In Farrago, select a set and use Sets › Export Set, or drag the set into Finder. Open the exported .farragoset file to check the copy before deleting app data. The official sound-set manual describes this export as containing audio and settings.

Finish playback, quit Farrago with Command + Q, then move Farrago.app from Applications to Trash, following the official uninstall instructions. Keep shared Rogue Amoeba audio-engine settings used by other apps.

Review the sound library and local state

After verifying the exported sets and quitting Farrago, press Shift + Command + G in Finder to open each location below. Back up any remaining sound-library data you want, then move the Farrago items you choose to remove to Trash. Keep the exports, original recordings and shared audio-engine settings.

    Location Keep or remove
~/Library/Application Support/Farrago 2 Recorded support folder for Farrago 2. Back it up before removal because it can contain the app's sound-library state.
    ~/Library/Caches/com.rogueamoeba.farrago App cache.
    ~/Library/HTTPStorages/com.rogueamoeba.farrago Local HTTP state.
~/Library/Preferences/com.rogueamoeba.farrago.plist Preferences to keep if you want the same setup after reinstalling.
~/Library/Saved Application State/com.rogueamoeba.farrago.savedState Saved window state.
    ~/Library/WebKit/com.rogueamoeba.farrago Local WebKit state.

These locations are in the current cask. Keep exported sets and original recordings outside this removal. Do not remove shared com.rogueamoeba.audiounit.plist settings as Farrago data. Uninstalling does not cancel a subscription or delete an account.

    Check the result

    pgrep -il Farrago
    ls -d /Applications/Farrago.app "$HOME/Library/Application Support/Farrago 2" "$HOME/Library/WebKit/com.rogueamoeba.farrago"

No process output means no matching name is running; inspect a match in Activity Monitor. Printed paths remain, missing-path errors mean absence, and permission errors leave the location unknown. Keeping a backed-up library is a deliberate choice.

If you installed it with Homebrew

    brew uninstall --cask farrago

The ordinary uninstall requests quit and removes the app. Direct brew uninstall --cask --zap farrago also removes the sound-library support folder and the five other local-state locations above, regardless of Mole's checkboxes.

Mole checks Homebrew's full removal list and skips --zap when it reaches unchecked data, shared files or anything it cannot verify. It still removes the leftovers you selected.

    What Mole lists

Farrago's exact bundle-ID preferences, caches, HTTP storage and WebKit state are selected by default when present. Its app-named support folder, including the recorded Farrago 2 folder, is unchecked with Remove data and settings with apps off; enabling it can preselect eligible reviewed app data. Leave the sound library unchecked if you want to keep it. Shared stores remain subject to their existing protection and review.

    What this test covered

Farrago 2.2.0 was copied from the official package to Applications and uninstalled on September 21, 2026, without installing ACE or a Homebrew receipt. The app, the 24.6 MB Farrago 2 support folder and WebKit data went to Trash after selecting the review items; temporary WebKit data returned permission errors. Sound-set export/import, populated library recovery and removal of a shared audio backend were not verified.

Mac running low on space or slowing down? Mole can clean out the junk, remove apps completely and keep macOS in shape.
