How to uninstall Elmedia Player on Mac
Save playlists and keep your video, audio and subtitle files before removing Elmedia Player. The official shortcut guide documents File › Save Playlist and Command + Q. This guide covers the website Mac app and Homebrew cask elmedia-player, not the App Store editions' storage layouts.
Save playlists, then stop playback
Save wanted playlists, stop local playback or streaming, then quit Elmedia Player. Back up ~/Library/Application Support/Elmedia Player outside that directory before resetting settings. Move Elmedia Player.app from Applications to Trash after it quits; keep the media files in their original locations.
Review app state, not your media library
After saving playlists and backing up wanted settings, press Shift + Command + G in Finder and open each path below. With Elmedia Player closed, move only the unwanted app data to the Trash; skip missing paths, and keep the activation XML if another Electronic Team app still uses it.
| Location | Keep or remove |
|---|---|
| ~/Library/Application Support/Elmedia Player | Player support data. Back up wanted settings before removing. |
| ~/Library/Caches/com.Eltima.ElmediaPlayer | Player cache. |
| ~/Library/HTTPStorages/com.Eltima.ElmediaPlayer | Local HTTP state; clearing it can reset sessions. |
| ~/Library/Preferences/com.Eltima.ElmediaPlayer.plist | Player preferences. |
| ~/Library/Preferences/com.eltima.activator.xml | Activation-related file named by the cask. Preserve it if another Electronic Team product still needs it. |
The current cask also names the player's recent-list preference file. Do not delete unrelated vendor preferences or media folders. App removal does not cancel subscriptions or delete online accounts.
Check the result
pgrep -il Elmedia
ls -d "/Applications/Elmedia Player.app" "$HOME/Library/Application Support/Elmedia Player" "$HOME/Library/Caches/com.Eltima.ElmediaPlayer"
No process output means no matching name is running. Inspect matches in Activity Monitor. Printed paths remain, missing-path errors mean absence, and permission errors leave them unknown. A playlist or movie you kept should remain outside the uninstall result.
If you installed it with Homebrew
brew uninstall --cask elmedia-player
This removes the cask app without zap. Direct brew uninstall --cask --zap elmedia-player also removes the support data, cache, HTTP storage, activation XML and preferences in the cask, regardless of Mole's checkboxes. Use the ordinary command to keep those settings and activation data.
Mole checks Homebrew's full removal list and skips --zap when it reaches unchecked data, shared files or anything it cannot verify. It still removes the leftovers you selected.
What Mole lists
Exact player preferences, caches and HTTP storage are selected by default. The display-name support folder is listed but not selected with Remove data and settings with apps off; enabling it can preselect eligible reviewed data. Cask-only activation state is a review item when matched, rather than proof that all vendor activation data belongs solely to Elmedia. Your media library is outside these selections.
What this test covered
Elmedia Player 8.24 from the official package was copied to Applications and uninstalled on September 21, 2026, without a Homebrew receipt. The app, 41 KB support folder and app log went to Trash. Populated playlists, activation sharing, media playback, the App Store editions and a complete installer run were not verified.
