How to uninstall electerm on Mac

Save electerm bookmarks and connection settings before uninstalling. The official project supports multiple authentication methods and optional bookmark sync, so verify the copy you need rather than assuming everything is recoverable from a cloud service. This guide covers the official Mac app and Homebrew cask electerm; npm and web installations are separate.

    Close sessions and quit electerm

Finish file transfers and close remote sessions, then quit electerm with Command + Q. Copy ~/Library/Application Support/electerm to a backup outside that directory before resetting app data. Keep SSH keys and certificates you use with other tools.

After the app quits, move electerm.app from Applications to Trash. Removing a local client does not remove files on the remote machines you accessed through SSH or SFTP.

    Review the client data

After quitting and verifying your backup, open each existing path with Shift + Command + G in Finder. For a full local removal, move only the listed app-owned items you no longer need to the Trash; keep remote files and shared data.

These locations are in the Mac cask or the recorded test.

    Location Keep or remove
~/Library/Application Support/electerm Client data. Back up wanted bookmarks and settings before removing.
~/Library/Logs/electerm Client logs. Inspect after quitting.
~/Library/Preferences/org.electerm.electerm.plist Local preferences. Removing them resets settings.
~/Library/Saved Application State/org.electerm.electerm.savedState Saved window state.

The cask also lists electerm's own recent-document files under Apple's sharedfilelist directory. Do not delete the shared parent. The test did not find a ~/.electerm folder, and Linux's .config/electerm path is not evidence of a Mac folder. Keep ~/.ssh outside this uninstall.

    Check the result

    pgrep -il electerm
    ls -d /Applications/electerm.app "$HOME/Library/Application Support/electerm" "$HOME/Library/Logs/electerm"
    command -v electerm

No process output means no matching name is running; confirm any match in Activity Monitor. Printed paths remain, missing-path errors mean absence, and permission errors leave the result unknown. A command path can belong to a separate npm installation or the Homebrew-managed launcher; check its owner instead of deleting an arbitrary executable.

If you installed it with Homebrew

    brew uninstall --cask electerm

The ordinary cask uninstall removes the app and its managed command-line link. Direct brew uninstall --cask --zap electerm additionally removes the support data, logs, preferences, saved state and app-specific recent-document paths in the cask, regardless of Mole's checkboxes.

Mole checks Homebrew's full removal list and skips --zap when it reaches unchecked data, shared files or anything it cannot verify. It still removes the leftovers you selected. Synced copies and third-party accounts require separate review.

    What Mole lists

The display-name Application Support/electerm folder is listed but not selected with Remove data and settings with apps off; enabling it can preselect eligible reviewed data. Its ordinary cache children, exact app preferences and app-owned logs are selected by default when present. Other reviewed cask-only state is unselected with that preference off. SSH keys and remote files are outside this removal.

    What this test covered

electerm 5.5.15 from the official package was copied to Applications and uninstalled on September 21, 2026, without a Homebrew receipt or a full installer run. The app, 5.5 MB support folder, logs and temporary data went to Trash. No ~/.electerm directory was written. SSH connections, key removal, sync recovery, npm removal and the Homebrew command-line link were not verified.

Mac running low on space or slowing down? Mole can clean out the junk, remove apps completely and keep macOS in shape.
