How to uninstall Ecamm Live on Mac
Save wanted scenes, settings and recordings before uninstalling Ecamm Live. The vendor's uninstall guide treats the app, System Audio plugin and Virtual Camera separately, and recommends retaining old settings when you intend to use Ecamm again. This guide covers the official Mac app and Homebrew cask ecamm-live.
Remove optional plugins while the app is still available
Stop broadcasts and recordings. If installed and no longer needed, use Ecamm › Uninstall System Audio… and Outputs › Virtual Cam › Uninstall Virtual Cam… before removing the app. Keep your video and audio recordings outside this reset.
Quit Ecamm with Command + Q, then move its app from Applications to Trash. The recorded package name was Ecamm Live.app; Mole displayed it as Ecamm. Back up wanted support data before clearing it.
Review app settings separately from recordings
After backing up wanted settings and quitting Ecamm, press Shift + Command + G in Finder and open each path below. Move only the app files or folders you no longer need to the Trash; skip missing paths and keep your recordings separately.
| Location | Keep or remove |
|---|---|
| ~/Library/Application Support/com.ecamm.EcammLive | Bundle-specific app data. Back up before resetting. |
| ~/Library/Application Support/EcammLive | Another support path named by the cask; inspect if present. |
| ~/Library/Logs/EcammLive | App log found in the recorded test. |
| ~/Library/Preferences/com.ecamm.EcammLive.plist | Local preferences. |
| ~/Library/HTTPStorages/com.ecamm.EcammLive | Local HTTP state; removal can reset sessions. |
The cask also names matching HTTP cookies and WebKit state. Removing the app does not cancel an Ecamm subscription or remove videos already uploaded to streaming services.
Check app and plugin state
pgrep -il Ecamm
ls -d "/Applications/Ecamm Live.app" "$HOME/Library/Application Support/com.ecamm.EcammLive" "/Library/Application Support/EcammLive/EcammLiveAudioXPCHelper.xpc" "/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.ecamm.EcammAudioXPCHelper.plist"
systemextensionsctl list
No process output means no matching name is running; inspect matches in Activity Monitor. Printed paths remain, missing-path errors mean absence, and permission errors leave it unknown. Check extension names for Ecamm rather than removing unrelated camera extensions. These queries do not prove every legacy plugin is absent; use the vendor's plugin uninstall actions first.
If you installed it with Homebrew
brew uninstall --cask ecamm-live
The ordinary cask uninstall also removes its specified system audio helper and launch-daemon file, and attempts to remove an empty helper directory. That command is not an app-only removal. Direct brew uninstall --cask --zap ecamm-live additionally removes both support paths, preferences, HTTP cookies and WebKit data in the cask without consulting Mole's checkboxes.
Mole checks Homebrew's full removal list and skips --zap when it reaches unchecked data, shared files or anything it cannot verify. It still removes the leftovers you selected.
What Mole lists
Exact bundle support data, preferences and HTTP state are selected by default. Logs/EcammLive is an exact app log selected by default. Reviewed display-name or cask-only support data is listed but not selected with Remove data and settings with apps off; enabling it can preselect eligible reviewed data. Recordings remain separate from these app-data rows.
What this test covered
Ecamm Live 4.5.12 from the official package was copied to Applications and uninstalled on September 21, 2026, without sign-in, screen-recording permission or a Homebrew receipt. The 1.7 GB app, bundle support data, crash-reporting data and HTTP state went to Trash. A 4 KB Logs/EcammLive leaf remained unlisted and was added afterward. No virtual-camera helper was installed, and plugin removal, broadcasts, saved scenes and a full installer run were not verified.
