How to uninstall Doubao Input Method on Mac

Save wanted Doubao Input Method settings before removing it. This is the Mac input method, separate from the Doubao chat app and Doubao extension. Finish dictation and save its text, then switch to another working input source before stopping the input method.

Preserve data and remove the owned app

Review the input source under System Settings › Keyboard › Text Input › Edit, keeping at least one usable source. After the input method and its settings app are stopped, copy wanted existing ~/Library/Application Support/DoubaoIme outside every sync/removal root and verify it. The recorded support folder held substantial app data, so do not treat the entire folder as cache.

For the owned system input-method copy, use Finder's Go › Go to Folder to open /Library/Input Methods, then move only DoubaoIme.app to the Trash after backup. macOS may request administrator authorization. Leave other input methods and any installer needed for its own supported workflow available until finished. Save other work before signing out and back in, as the cask's logout caveat requires.

If you installed it with Homebrew

The cask extracts the nested input-method payload and manages /Library/Input Methods/DoubaoIme.app; it declares no additional uninstall service step:

    brew uninstall --cask doubaoime

    Zap additionally names ~/Library/Application Support/DoubaoIme; ~/Library/Caches/com.bytedance.inputmethod.doubaoime, ~/Library/Caches/com.bytedance.inputmethod.doubaoime.installer, ~/Library/Caches/com.bytedance.inputmethod.doubaoime.settings; the corresponding ~/Library/HTTPStorages/com.bytedance.inputmethod.doubaoime, ~/Library/HTTPStorages/com.bytedance.inputmethod.doubaoime.installer, ~/Library/HTTPStorages/com.bytedance.inputmethod.doubaoime.settings; and ~/Library/Preferences/com.bytedance.inputmethod.doubaoime.plist plus ~/Library/Preferences/com.bytedance.inputmethod.doubaoime.settings.plist.

Direct brew uninstall --cask --zap doubaoime ignores Mole's checkboxes. Mole uses zap only when its entire scope passes selection, ownership and safety checks; selected remnants otherwise use its own Trash flow. Neither path is an instruction to remove another Doubao product.

    Check the result

    pgrep -ifl DoubaoIme
    ls -ld "/Library/Input Methods/DoubaoIme.app" "$HOME/Library/Application Support/DoubaoIme"

No process match means no arguments matched this pattern. Printed app/data paths remain, expected for deliberately retained state. Missing-path errors apply only to those entries; other errors are inconclusive and do not verify learned-data recovery or the enabled input-source list.

    What Mole lists

The display-name support folder needs review, starting unchecked with Remove data and settings with apps off; enabling it can preselect eligible unshared data. Exact main-ID and verified dot-continuation cache/storage rows follow their own default rules. Back up and uncheck wanted state; protected system temporary directories remain outside removal.

    What this test covered

On September 23, 2026, the official Doubao Input Method 1.0.0 system app was removed with selected preferences, caches, HTTP/WebKit storage and its reviewed support folder. Some temporary WebKit cache entries belonging to the nested settings app were not listed; dot-continuation coverage was added separately afterward, without another removal test in that record. Learned-data restoration and Homebrew were not tested.

If Mac apps leave files behind after uninstalling, try Mole. I've personally tested and inspected 799 Mac apps.
