How to uninstall the Doubao Safari extension on Mac

Save wanted replies and work in Safari pages before removing the Doubao Safari extension. The publisher's App Store listing describes translation, summaries and writing assistance inside web pages. This guide covers its Mac App Store host app, DoubaoExtension.app, not the separate Doubao desktop or mobile apps.

Quit Safari and remove the extension host

Save open browser work and any replies you need, then quit Safari and DoubaoExtension before changing extension data. Copy wanted local state from the recorded containers below to an independent private backup and verify it before clearing originals.

Move DoubaoExtension.app from Applications to the Trash in Finder. It contains the Safari web extension. If Safari still displays a Doubao extension entry afterward, inspect that entry in Safari › Settings › Extensions and confirm which installed host it belongs to. Keep Safari profiles, other extensions and any separate Doubao app you still use.

    Review recorded local data

    • ~/Library/Containers/com.extension.doubao.flow.bytedance and ~/Library/Application Scripts/com.extension.doubao.flow.bytedance: the host app's sandbox data and scripts support.
    • ~/Library/Containers/com.extension.doubao.flow.bytedance.extension and ~/Library/Application Scripts/com.extension.doubao.flow.bytedance.extension: the bundled Safari extension's data and scripts.

These exact paths were recorded in the App Store test. Use Finder's Go › Go to Folder, skip missing entries and trash only unwanted confirmed-owned local data after backups are checked. Do not delete ~/Library/Safari or reset Safari's shared databases to remove this extension.

    Check the result

    pgrep -ifl DoubaoExtension
    pluginkit -m | grep -i 'com.extension.doubao.flow.bytedance'
    ls -ld "$HOME/Library/Containers/com.extension.doubao.flow.bytedance"

No process match means this pattern found no matching arguments. With a successful error-free pluginkit query, no matching line means only that its returned registration list has no matching identity, not that every extension file is absent. Identify surviving matches and their host paths. A printed container remains; a missing-path error means that exact folder is absent. Read or permission errors leave the result unknown.

    What Mole lists

The host container/scripts and confirmed own bundled Safari extension container/scripts are selected by default. Back up and uncheck wanted local state. The optional app-data setting does not change these exact own-app defaults, and removing this host does not authorize clearing Safari or another Doubao product's data.

    What this test covered

The Mac App Store host was removed on September 21 and retested on September 26, 2026. The later 1.23.5 run removed the app and selected original container/scripts paths; additional WebKit temporary entries were still seen later. Signed-in replies, Safari extension approval, translation or summary functionality and backup recovery were not tested.

If Mac apps leave files behind after uninstalling, try Mole. I've personally tested and inspected 799 Mac apps.
