How to uninstall Comet on Mac

Keep the Comet profile if you still need bookmarks, browsing state or sign-in data. This guide covers the copied official Mac browser, distinct from the Perplexity desktop client. Quit Comet, then copy ~/Library/Application Support/Comet to a separate checked backup before considering any local reset. A profile copy alone does not establish that every password or session can be restored.

    Remove the browser app

Move Comet.app from Applications to the Trash using Apple’s app-removal procedure. Keep downloaded files at their chosen locations and other browser profiles. Removing the browser does not delete your Perplexity account or cancel a subscription.

If you installed it with Homebrew

    brew uninstall --cask comet

Quit first; the current cask has no separate quit stanza. Additional zap targets are:

    • ~/Library/Application Support/ai.perplexity.comet
    • ~/Library/Application Support/Comet
    • ~/Library/Caches/ai.perplexity.comet
    • ~/Library/Caches/Comet
    • ~/Library/Preferences/ai.perplexity.comet.plist
    • ~/Library/Saved Application State/ai.perplexity.comet.savedState
    • ~/Library/WebKit/ai.perplexity.comet

Direct brew uninstall --cask --zap comet acts on the full list, including the profile, independently of Mole’s checkboxes. Use uninstall without zap to retain it. Mole uses zap only when the complete scope passes selection and shared-data checks; unchecked, shared or out-of-boundary paths and unsupported actions suppress zap, while selected remnants use its own removal flow.

    Check the result

    ls -ld "/Applications/Comet.app"
    ls -ld "$HOME/Library/Application Support/Comet"

Printed paths remain. No such file or directory means that exact item is absent; permission errors leave it unknown. A kept profile is expected and does not mean the app bundle still exists. These commands do not inspect other copies or cloud-account data.

    What Mole lists

The browser app is included for removal when selected. Check the actual protections and checkboxes on Comet data rows, and leave profile data unchecked if you want to keep it. Protected profile rows remain outside bulk selection, including with Remove data and settings with apps enabled. That option is off by default and does not replace individual profile review.

    What this test covered

The copied official Mac browser was launched and removed using a source-built Mole on September 22, 2026. The protected ~/Library/Application Support/Comet profile was retained. Profile recovery, browsing sync, account deletion and a Homebrew-managed uninstall were not tested.

If Mac apps leave files behind after uninstalling, try Mole. I've personally tested and inspected 799 Mac apps.
