How to uninstall BoltAI on Mac

Create a backup before removing BoltAI. The current BoltAI v2 guide uses Settings > Backup & Restore > Create Full Backup. Keep BoltAI open until it finishes and save the .boltai-backup file outside the app-data directories. This local backup does not download cloud-only files or include device Keychain data and downloaded models; keep it private because it can contain sensitive conversations and credentials.

    Finish the backup and quit

Confirm the backup completed, stop active requests and quit BoltAI with Cmd + Q. Then move BoltAI.app from Applications to the Trash. Removing the app is separate from deleting an account or cancelling a subscription.

The tested Mac package used co.podzim.boltai-mobile. Do not substitute the older co.podzim.BoltGPT paths for this installation. Keep any independently saved images, model downloads or custom data locations as separate decisions.

After confirming your backup and quitting, press Shift + Command + G in Finder to inspect ~/Library/Containers/co.podzim.boltai-mobile, ~/Library/Application Scripts/co.podzim.boltai-mobile, ~/Library/Application Support/BoltAI and ~/.boltai when present. Move only the BoltAI folder you chose to discard to the Trash. A container item refused by macOS remains unremoved; keep independently saved images, downloaded models and shared parent directories.

    Check the result

    pgrep -ifl BoltAI
    ls -ld /Applications/BoltAI.app "$HOME/Library/Containers/co.podzim.boltai-mobile" "$HOME/Library/Application Support/BoltAI" "$HOME/.boltai"

Inspect the executable path of a matching process. Missing-path errors mean those locations are absent; permission errors leave them unverified. Confirm the backup file separately, and do not treat a preserved data location as an app-removal failure.

If you installed it with Homebrew

    brew uninstall --cask boltai

The cask defines its managed removal. The cask's zap list names ~/Library/Application Scripts/co.podzim.boltai-mobile, ~/Library/Containers/co.podzim.boltai-mobile and ~/Library/Saved Application State/co.podzim.boltai-mobile.savedState. Resetting the container can discard local data. The list does not establish removal of custom locations or the reviewed ~/.boltai leaf.

A direct brew uninstall --cask --zap boltai runs its whole zap list regardless of Mole's checkboxes. Mole checks Homebrew's full removal list and skips --zap when it reaches unchecked data, shared files or anything it cannot verify. It still removes the leftovers you selected.

    What Mole lists

Mole selects the app and exact bundle-owned container, scripts, preferences and cache when present. Back up wanted container data or uncheck that row. ~/Library/Application Support/BoltAI and ~/.boltai are review rows, unchecked when Remove data and settings with apps in General > Cleaning is off. Turning it on can preselect eligible app data; uncheck wanted data and review any shared location individually. These rules do not establish a successful cloud-data backup.

    What this test covered

On September 21, 2026, BoltAI 2.16.0 from the official Mac package was launched without signing in and removed. The selected empty support directory, app scripts and temporary cache were removed, but the bundle-owned container was refused by macOS permissions. This test did not verify the current backup feature, data restoration, account sync or a Homebrew installation.

Mac running low on space or slowing down? Mole can clean out the junk, remove apps completely and keep macOS in shape.
