How to uninstall Barbee on Mac

Back up Barbee's layout and settings before removing the Mac App Store app. Its publisher's listing describes profile synchronization as well as menu-bar customization; a synced profile is not an independent copy of local state. If you use sync, verify wanted profiles on another available synced device, then keep a separate local backup.

    Quit and preserve settings

Quit Barbee from its menu-bar controls, and check Activity Monitor for Barbee or a confirmed Barbee helper. Copy the existing main container and app group below outside every sync root and removal folder, then verify the copies before deleting original settings.

If a separately installed Barbee Helper keeps restarting or cannot be stopped, keep Barbee available and ask its publisher about that helper before continuing. Removing just Barbee.app does not remove that system installation. Once the app's own work is stopped and backups checked, move Barbee.app from Applications to the Trash. Check System Settings › General › Login Items & Extensions for remaining Barbee entries.

Separate app data from the system helper

    The recorded installation contained:

    • ~/Library/Containers/com.HyperartFlow.Barbee and ~/Library/Application Scripts/com.HyperartFlow.Barbee: the main sandbox and scripts support.
    • ~/Library/Group Containers/9P895LY647.com.hyperartflow.barbee and ~/Library/Application Scripts/9P895LY647.com.hyperartflow.barbee: app-group state; keep until backup and exclusive ownership are confirmed.
    • /Library/LaunchAgents/com.Hyperartflow.BarbeeHelper.plist and /Library/Application Support/Barbee Helper: a separate system helper, not ordinary per-user cache. Keep these while helper removal or ownership is unresolved; do not delete its files while its service is loaded.

Use Finder's Go › Go to Folder for each existing path. Remove only unwanted confirmed-owned local app data, keeping the shared parents. If you no longer use Barbee, review its privacy permissions in System Settings separately; app removal does not itself revoke them. If you subscribed to VIP, manage that subscription separately; removing the app does not cancel its renewal.

    Check the result

    pgrep -ifl Barbee
    ls -ld "$HOME/Library/Containers/com.HyperartFlow.Barbee" '/Library/Application Support/Barbee Helper'
    plutil -p /Library/LaunchAgents/com.Hyperartflow.BarbeeHelper.plist

No process match means this pattern found no matching arguments. Identify surviving matches rather than quitting unrelated processes. A printed folder or plist output means that item still exists, not that its service is loaded; retained helper files can be expected. A missing-path error means only that exact item is absent, and permissions or parse errors leave its state unknown.

    What Mole lists

The main container and scripts folder are selected by default; back up and uncheck wanted settings. The app group and its scripts folder require individual review and exclusive-ownership checks. System helper files can appear as unchecked review rows and need administrator approval if removed; turning on Remove data and settings with apps does not automatically select these system or shared-group rows.

    What this test covered

The Mac App Store app was removed on September 21 and retested on September 26, 2026. The later Barbee 5.0 run removed the app and selected main sandbox data, but kept the group when ownership checks were incomplete. The system helper was listed for review and left unchecked. Full helper removal, profile-sync recovery and populated layout restoration were not tested.

If Mac apps leave files behind after uninstalling, try Mole. I've personally tested and inspected 799 Mac apps.
