How to uninstall Airmail on Mac
Save local drafts, wanted messages and attachments before removing Airmail. The official site describes support for both IMAP and POP3, so do not assume every local message has a server copy. Check wanted mail in its actual account or a verified export, quit Airmail, then back up wanted contents of ~/Library/Containers/it.bloop.airmail2 before resetting it.
Remove the Mac mail client
Move Airmail.app from Applications to the Trash after checking saved mail. Keep mail accounts and attachments stored elsewhere. Removing this client does not close those accounts or prove all local mail can be recovered.
ls -ld "/Applications/Airmail.app"
ls -ld "$HOME/Library/Containers/it.bloop.airmail2"
Printed paths remain. Missing-path errors apply only to these locations; permission errors leave them unknown. A retained container is expected when keeping client data, and these checks do not inspect server mail or every extension.
What Mole lists
The selected app, exact main container and scripts are normally checked when present and unprotected. The confirmed own Share and widget extension containers/scripts can also be checked by default. Uncheck the main container if keeping its mail state. Remove data and settings with apps is off by default; shared account data and other mail clients stay separate.
What this test covered
The maintainer-installed Mac App Store app and selected sandbox data were removed with source-built Mole on October 4, 2026. This record does not establish a complete initial mailbox inventory. Populated mailbox restoration, account deletion, Status and update behavior were not verified.
