How to Clean Up Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro Storage
Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro mix rebuildable output with source media, recordings, and project databases. The safe cleanup path is to let each app remove what it owns, then use a disk map to find the project worth opening.
Before deleting anything, make a current project backup and confirm where the original media lives. A large folder is not automatically disposable: it may contain generated files, or it may be the only copy of a recording.
Cleaning Up Final Cut Pro
Delete Generated Library Files
Final Cut Pro can create render files, optimized media, and proxy media. Select the library, event, project, or clips you want to clean, then choose File > Delete Generated Library Files or the matching generated-files command.
- Render files can be regenerated automatically when Final Cut needs them.
- Optimized and proxy media can also be regenerated, but you must start that work again and wait for it to finish.
- Original media is not part of this generated-files command. Confirm that the originals are still online before removing optimized or proxy copies.
If playback depends on proxy media, switch the viewer back to optimized/original media before the final share. Apple notes that generated-file deletion can affect external as well as library-managed media, so use the selected scope shown in Final Cut rather than deleting folders in Finder.
Manage Final Cut Pro Backups
By default, Final Cut Pro saves library database backups in ~/Movies/Final Cut Pro Backups. The location can be changed in the library's storage settings. These backups do not include media, and Final Cut automatically removes backups older than several days.

Pressing Delete can remove an item from the project while leaving the audio file on disk, depending on the selected command. More importantly, an audio file can be shared with another project. Consolidate project assets first if you cannot prove ownership. Logic's Optimize File(s) command edits source audio destructively, so it is not a general cleanup shortcut.
Manage Freeze Files and Plug-in Caches
Frozen tracks trade disk space for lower CPU use. Unfreeze only projects you are archiving and can render again. Do not wipe Audio Unit caches for storage: they are usually small, and deleting them forces plug-in validation without addressing project media.
Using a Disk Analyzer
A disk map should help you choose which project to open, not which internal file to remove. Mole's Analyze view can show which .fcpbundle, Logic project, or media folder is large. Reveal the owner in Finder or open the project in its app, then use the supported cleanup command. Mole should not guess which take, proxy, or backup matters to your edit.
