How to uninstall rekordbox on Mac
rekordbox (com.pioneerdj.rekordboxdj) keeps your DJ library, meaning playlists, cue points and track analysis, in a database at ~/Library/Pioneer/rekordbox. Removing the app does not touch your music files, but deleting that folder deletes the library, so copy it outside ~/Library before you start if you might use rekordbox again. If you activated Plus Pack, Pioneer DJ's installation FAQ recommends deactivating it before uninstalling, because uninstalling does not deactivate it, and the only way to deactivate afterwards is to reinstall. This guide covers the official package from rekordbox.com and the Homebrew cask rekordbox.
Quit rekordbox and remove it
- Deactivate Plus Pack first if you activated it, then quit rekordbox. It starts an embedded helper called
rekordboxAgent, so search Activity Monitor forrekordboxand check that both are gone. In the recorded test it ran 9 processes, which Mole's Status page folded into one rekordbox row. - The package installs into a folder,
/Applications/rekordbox 7, that holds the app next to drivers, firmware, residentmanagerand tool folders (about 48 MB outside the app in the test). The vendor's FAQ says to move that installed rekordbox folder in Applications to the Trash. If you use a Pioneer DJ controller with other software, look inside first and keep what that setup needs. macOS may ask for an administrator password for the folder. - The test did not show a login item or launch agent.
Where rekordbox keeps its data
In Finder, press Shift + Command + G and type the path. Library is hidden, so Go to Folder is the easy way. Skip paths that are not on your Mac.
| Location | What it holds | What to do |
|---|---|---|
~/Library/Pioneer/rekordbox |
The library database (master.db): playlists, cue points, analysis |
Copy it outside ~/Library first. Remove it only if you will not use rekordbox again. Mole lists it and does not select it. |
~/Library/Application Support/Pioneer/rekordbox and ~/Library/Application Support/Pioneer/rekordbox6 |
Settings and support files | Remove with the library if you are done with rekordbox. Mole lists them and does not select them. |
~/Library/Application Support/Pioneer/rekordboxAgent and ~/Library/Application Support/rekordboxAgent |
The embedded agent's Electron data | Remove with the app. Mole lists them and does not select them; the Chromium cache folders inside Pioneer/rekordboxAgent are separate rows that are selected. |
~/Library/Logs/Pioneer/rekordbox6 |
Logs | Safe to remove once the app is gone. Mole lists it and does not select it. |
~/Library/Preferences/com.electron.rekordboxagent.plist |
The agent's preferences | Remove with the app. Mole lists it and does not select it. |
~/Library/Preferences/com.pioneerdj.rekordboxdj.plist |
rekordbox preferences | Remove with the app. Mole selects it. |
~/Library/Caches/com.pioneerdj.rekordboxdj, ~/Library/HTTPStorages/com.pioneerdj.rekordboxdj and its .binarycookies file, the crash-reporter folder ~/Library/Application Support/com.bugsnag.Bugsnag/com.pioneerdj.rekordboxdj, and the temporary cache folder com.pioneerdj.rekordboxdj under your user cache root (getconf DARWIN_USER_CACHE_DIR) |
Caches and crash-report state | Remove with the app. Mole selects them. |
~/Library/Caches/rekordbox |
A cache named after the app | Remove with the app. Mole selects it. |
~/Documents/rekordbox |
A folder in your Documents | Not listed by Mole. It was empty in the test; look inside before removing it, since Documents is your content area. |
Do not delete the ~/Library/Pioneer or ~/Library/Application Support/Pioneer parent folders; remove only the rekordbox entries above.
Check the result
pgrep -il rekordbox
ls -d "/Applications/rekordbox 7" "$HOME/Library/Pioneer/rekordbox" "$HOME/Library/Application Support/Pioneer/rekordbox6" "$HOME/Library/Application Support/Pioneer/rekordboxAgent" "$HOME/Library/Preferences/com.pioneerdj.rekordboxdj.plist"
ls -d "$(getconf DARWIN_USER_CACHE_DIR)"com.pioneerdj.rekordboxdj*
pkgutil --pkgs | grep -i pioneer
- No output from
pgrepmeans no rekordbox process was found. A printed line means rekordbox or its agent is still running. - A path printed by
lsstill exists; No such file or directoryapplies to that path only.~/Library/Pioneer/rekordboxstaying is expected if you kept your library. - For the line with
*, zsh, the default shell on macOS, printsno matches foundwhen no temporary cache folder is left, which is the result you want. - A line from
pkgutil --pkgssuch ascom.pioneer.rekordbox.7.…is the installer receipt. It is a record only and holds no files, and it stays after Mole's removal because it belongs to the/Applications/rekordbox 7folder. Once that folder is gone, you can optionally clear the record withsudo pkgutil --forgetfollowed by the exact id thatpkgutil --pkgsprinted. Leaving it does no harm.
If you installed it with Homebrew
brew uninstall --cask rekordbox
The cask runs the vendor's package, and its ordinary uninstall already forgets the com.pioneer.rekordbox.7.* receipts and deletes /Applications/rekordbox 7, drivers and tools included. Its zap list is ~/Library/Application Support/Pioneer/rekordbox and ~/Library/Pioneer/rekordbox, which is your library, so brew uninstall --cask --zap rekordbox moves it to the Trash whatever you ticked in Mole. Back it up first, or run the plain command above. Mole adds --zap only when every zap path is inside ~/Library and none touches a row you left unchecked; these two rows are unchecked by default, so Mole leaves --zap off unless you tick both, which the data setting below also does. When Mole removes a Homebrew install it goes through brew uninstall --cask, so this stanza can take the rekordbox 7 folder too; if brew cannot get administrator rights, Mole moves the app alone instead.
Account
Removing rekordbox does not deactivate Plus Pack or cancel any rekordbox plan. Deactivate before you uninstall, as the FAQ above says.
What Mole lists
Mole selects the app, the rekordbox preferences file, the cache and web storage folders named with its bundle id, ~/Library/Caches/rekordbox, the cookies file, the crash-reporter folder and the temporary cache folder when they are present. It lists the library, the support folders, the agent folders, the log folder and the agent preferences for review without selecting them, and the four Chromium cache folders inside Pioneer/rekordboxAgent (blob_storage, Cache, Code Cache, GPUCache) are separate rows selected by default. For the official package Mole removes the app only, not /Applications/rekordbox 7 and the drivers and firmware in it, and it does not list ~/Documents/rekordbox or the agent's temporary files. It never removes the Pioneer parent folders.
These defaults assume “Remove data and settings with apps” in General › Cleaning is off. With it on, Mole also ticks those review rows, your library in ~/Library/Pioneer/rekordbox included, so untick it or copy it before you remove rekordbox.
What this test covered
On October 20, 2026, rekordbox 7.2.19 was installed from the official package and launched; it stopped at the sign-in screen, so no account was signed in and Plus Pack was not touched. With every listed row ticked, the first removal moved the app and the seven rows next to it to the Trash. It left ~/Library/Pioneer/rekordbox, the Pioneer support and log folders and the agent's folders and preferences on disk, because Mole did not list them then. Those paths were added to Mole, the app was put back, and a second removal the same day listed ten rows, including the agent's four cache folders, and moved them and the app to the Trash. The outer /Applications/rekordbox 7 folder was moved in a separate administrator step, and the three empty Pioneer parent folders, an empty ~/Documents/rekordbox, the agent's recent-documents list and its temporary files were moved by hand in Finder. The installer receipt stayed registered after Mole's removal, because its location is the outer folder, and was forgotten by hand with sudo pkgutil --forget. Status showed one rekordbox row with 9 processes, the agent folded in. Mole's startup items showed nothing for rekordbox before or after. rekordbox updates itself, outside the update channels Mole reads. A populated library, restoring one from a backup and a Homebrew install were not tested.
