How to uninstall Bandizip 365 on Mac
Bandizip 365 is the free Mac App Store edition of Bandisoft's archiver (com.bandisoft.mac.bandizip365). Removing it does not touch the archives you created or extracted, and the settings it keeps live inside its sandbox, so copy the container shown below first if you want to reuse them. Uninstalling also does not cancel anything you bought through your Apple account. This guide covers the App Store edition only; Bandisoft's direct-download Bandizip is a different app with its own help pages.
Quit Bandizip and its Finder extension
Bandizip adds items to Finder's right-click menu through a Finder extension, and Bandisoft's help page says an active extension is why the Trash can refuse the app with “some of its extensions are in use”. That page was written for the direct download and names System Preferences › Extensions › Finder Extensions › “Bandizip Finder Extension”; on current macOS the extension switches are in System Settings › General › Login Items & Extensions. The page gives two ways out:
- Switch “Bandizip Finder Extension” off, restart the Mac, then uninstall.
- Or force quit the “Bandizip Finder Extension” process in Activity Monitor, then uninstall.
In the recorded test Bandizip ran 9 processes, which Mole's Status page folded into one Bandizip 365 row, and no login item or launch agent appeared.
Copy the settings you want, then remove the app
- Quit Bandizip. Finish any extraction or compression first and check that the output files open.
- To keep your settings, copy
~/Library/Containers/com.bandisoft.mac.bandizip365to a folder outside~/Library. - Move Bandizip from Applications to the Trash in Finder.
Where Bandizip keeps its data
In Finder, press Shift + Command + G and type the path. These are the paths from the recorded App Store installation; skip any that are missing.
| Location | What it holds | What to do |
|---|---|---|
~/Library/Containers/com.bandisoft.mac.bandizip365 |
The app's sandbox data and settings | Back it up if you want the settings, then remove it. Mole selects it. |
~/Library/Containers/com.bandisoft.mac.bandizip365.findersyncextension |
The Finder extension's sandbox data | Remove with the app. Mole selects it. |
~/Library/Application Scripts/com.bandisoft.mac.bandizip365 and ~/Library/Application Scripts/com.bandisoft.mac.bandizip365.findersyncextension |
Script support folders for the app and the extension | Remove with the app. Mole selects them. |
~/Library/Group Containers/4S9C2A4BKK.group.com.bandisoft.mac.bandizip365 and ~/Library/Application Scripts/4S9C2A4BKK.group.com.bandisoft.mac.bandizip365 |
The App Group shared between the app and its extension | Remove with the app once nothing else of Bandisoft's is installed. Mole selects them, then keeps them if it cannot confirm that no other app uses the group. |
The temporary cache folder com.bandisoft.mac.bandizip365 under your user cache root (getconf DARWIN_USER_CACHE_DIR) |
Temporary cache | Remove with the app. Mole selects it. |
If another Bandisoft app that shares the group stays installed, leave the two group folders alone.
Check the result
pgrep -il bandizip
ls -d "$HOME/Library/Containers/com.bandisoft.mac.bandizip365" "$HOME/Library/Containers/com.bandisoft.mac.bandizip365.findersyncextension" "$HOME/Library/Group Containers/4S9C2A4BKK.group.com.bandisoft.mac.bandizip365" "$HOME/Library/Application Scripts/4S9C2A4BKK.group.com.bandisoft.mac.bandizip365"
ls -d "$(getconf DARWIN_USER_CACHE_DIR)"com.bandisoft.mac.bandizip365*
pluginkit -m | grep -i bandizip
- No output from
pgrepmeans no process with that text was found. A printed line means Bandizip or its extension is still running. - A path printed by
lsstill exists; No such file or directoryapplies to that path only. A group folder that survives is expected when Mole kept it, see below. - For the line with
*, zsh, the default shell on macOS, printsno matches foundwhen no temporary cache folder is left, which is the result you want. - A line from
pluginkit -mmeans macOS still has a Bandizip extension registered. No output means none is registered.
Account and subscription
Uninstalling does not cancel a subscription or a purchase made through your Apple account. Manage those in your Apple account's subscriptions. The test used the free app only, with no subscription.
What Mole lists
Mole selects the app, the two containers, the three Application Scripts folders, the group container and the temporary cache folder when they are present. The two group rows pass an App Group ownership check just before they move: Mole confirms that no other installed app claims the group, and when it cannot finish that check it keeps both rows and reports them as skipped rather than guess. Mole does not look at your archives or at Bandisoft's direct-download edition. Every row here is selected by default, so “Remove data and settings with apps” in General › Cleaning changes nothing for this app.
What this test covered
On October 20, 2026, the free Bandizip 365 7.39 was installed from the Mac App Store, launched without a subscription and uninstalled with Mole with every row ticked. macOS refused the first move of the app and Mole's fallback moved it; the containers, script folders and Finder extension folders went to the Trash. The two group rows were kept because Mole's ownership check timed out reading the test Mac's app registry, which is slow on that machine, and they were moved to the Trash by hand in Finder afterwards. Status showed one Bandizip 365 row with 9 processes, and Mole's update page read the app as a Mac App Store app; no update was run. Mole's startup items showed no login item or launch agent for it before or after. Archive handling, subscriptions and Bandisoft's direct download were not tested, and there is no Homebrew cask for this app.
