How to uninstall Godot on Windows
This record covers Godot Engine 4.7.2, installed through winget GodotEngine.GodotEngine with user scope. Back up the folders below when retaining local data.
Close the app
Close the window and tray entry, then use Task Manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc) to check Godot_v4.7.2-stable_windows_arm64.exe. Quit only processes whose executable paths belong to this app.
Data and settings
| Location | Action |
|---|---|
%APPDATA%\Godot |
Inspect and back up data; keep the parent folder |
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Godot |
Empty in this test; do not infer removal of other data |
Remove with the vendor uninstaller
Find the app in Settings › Apps › Installed apps and uninstall it. Save local data first; use the uninstaller rather than deleting its program folder.
For the measured winget installation, this command runs the package’s uninstall flow.
winget uninstall --id GodotEngine.GodotEngine --exact
Check the result
Get-Process -Name 'Godot_v4.7.2-stable_windows_arm64' -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue
winget list --id GodotEngine.GodotEngine --exact
Test-Path "$env:APPDATA\Godot"
Test-Path "$env:LOCALAPPDATA\Godot"
No process output means no matching process was observed. A completed installation query with no match means the measured registration is absent; a query error does not prove removal. Test-Path returns True when the path remains and False when absent. True is expected when retaining data.
What Mole lists
winget removed the measured portable package. %APPDATA%\Godot is personal data, unchecked and excluded from bulk selection; settings, the project list and template folders survived the retest. %LOCALAPPDATA%\Godot was empty and not listed; an empty directory is not evidence of cache removal. Game projects elsewhere are left in place.
What this test covered
Recorded in Windows 11 ARM64 source tests and retests on 2026-10-03 and 2026-10-04, using the measured package uninstall flow. The released download, account sign-in, synced content and other installation channels were not verified.
