How to uninstall Zoom Outlook Plugin on Windows
This guide removes the Windows MSI Outlook plugin, not the Zoom application and not the separately deployed Outlook add-in. Keep calendar events and mail data; they are not plugin leftovers.
Save your data and quit
Save drafts, close Outlook and confirm it has exited before uninstalling the plugin. If a Zoom button remains afterwards, check whether an Outlook add-in is also installed or centrally deployed. Do not use a broad Zoom cleanup tool just to remove this plugin, since its scope can include the main Zoom application.
Uninstall the tested package
In Windows 11, open Settings › Apps › Installed apps, find Zoom Outlook Plugin, and choose Uninstall. In Windows 10, use Settings › Apps › Apps & features. Keep the installed program folder intact until its uninstaller finishes. If this was the winget package, first confirm its exact identity:
winget list --id Zoom.ZoomOutlookPlugin --exact
If the successful query shows the intended installation, remove that package:
winget uninstall --id Zoom.ZoomOutlookPlugin --exact
This follows the package’s registered removal method; portable packages use their package-manager removal instead. An error or a missing winget match is not proof that the app is absent: check the Windows app list and the original installation method. Follow any vendor confirmation or restart request after saving other work. See Microsoft’s uninstall command documentation.
Data and components to check
The following locations or components need separate decisions. A remaining folder is not automatically disposable.
| Location or component | What to keep or check |
|---|---|
HKCU\Software\Zoom\OutlookPlugin |
App-specific settings checked in the test; leave the Zoom parent key. |
%APPDATA%\Zoom\appsafecheck.txt |
A shared Zoom file retained in the test, not removed merely because the plugin was uninstalled. |
| Outlook mail and calendar data | Keep PST files, profiles and existing invitations. Plugin removal is not meeting cancellation. |
See Zoom Outlook Plugin’s official documentation.
Check the outcome
winget list --id Zoom.ZoomOutlookPlugin --exact
Test-Path -LiteralPath "$env:APPDATA\Zoom\appsafecheck.txt"
A successful package query with no matching row means that package registration was not found. A matching row means it still exists; an error leaves the result unknown. For each Test-Path, True means that exact location remains and False means it was not found; an access error does not mean it was removed. Keep deliberately retained data. Check Task Manager for a process whose executable belongs to this installation, and distinguish another version or a separate companion app before acting.
What Mole lists
The review included the plugin-specific user registry key, which was already absent when processed. The shared Zoom file and parent key remained. Machine-wide Zoom keys were not treated as owned plugin data.
What this test covered
The machine-wide MSI plugin was removed. This did not remove or validate a centrally managed add-in, test sending calendar invitations, migrate meetings or execute an upgrade.
These results are from a development build of Mole. Other released builds were not individually tested.
