How to uninstall Tencent Yuanbao on Windows
Yuanbao keeps little on your PC that cannot come back. It runs Tencent's models in the cloud, not on your machine, so there are no downloaded models to save, and when you are signed in your conversations follow your Tencent account: the desktop app, the phone app and yuanbao.tencent.com show the same history. Removing the app deletes neither the account nor those conversations. What stays behind is a few local folders and registry entries. This guide covers Yuanbao installed for all users from the official installer at yuanbao.tencent.com, which puts it in %ProgramFiles%\Tencent\Yuanbao. Yuanbao download page
Quit Yuanbao and its startup entry
Yuanbao adds itself to startup when installed. Quit it, then check Task Manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc) for any yuanbao.exe or YuanbaoCrashHandler.exe still listed. In this test the uninstaller left the startup entry pointing at the removed program, so afterwards open Settings › Apps › Startup and turn off any Yuanbao entry still there.
Remove the app with its own uninstaller
Go to Settings › Apps › Installed apps, find Yuanbao, and choose Uninstall, or run:
winget uninstall --id Tencent.Yuanbao
Yuanbao is installed for all users, so Windows asks for administrator access before its uninstaller runs. The uninstaller removes the program folder in %ProgramFiles%\Tencent\Yuanbao.
Where the data lives
| Location | What it holds | What to do |
|---|---|---|
%APPDATA%\Tencent\yuanbao |
The app's local data, the largest of these folders | Safe to remove for a clean start; signed-in conversations stay on your account |
%LOCALAPPDATA%\com.tencent.yuanbao |
The embedded browser's data, cookies and caches | Safe to remove; you sign in again after a reinstall |
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Yuanbao |
A few tiny files | Safe to remove |
%ProgramData%\Tencent\Yuanbao |
Data shared by all users of this PC | Safe to remove once the app is gone; needs administrator access |
HKCU\Software\Tencent\Yuanbao |
Your settings key | Safe to remove once the app is gone |
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run, value Yuanbao |
The startup entry | Turn it off or remove it |
HKLM\Software\Classes\yuanbao and HKLM\Software\Tencent\Yuanbao |
The yuanbao:// link and a machine-wide settings key |
Harmless once the app is gone; removing them needs Registry Editor as an administrator, so export them first |
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Tencent\Wemeet |
An empty folder left by the Tencent Meeting component bundled with Yuanbao | Leave it if you use Tencent Meeting; otherwise it is empty and can go |
The Tencent parent folders hold other Tencent apps' data too, so remove only the Yuanbao folders inside them, never the parent.
Check the result
Run these read-only commands after the uninstall finishes:
Get-Process yuanbao, YuanbaoCrashHandler -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue
Test-Path "$env:ProgramFiles\Tencent\Yuanbao"
Test-Path "$env:APPDATA\Tencent\yuanbao"
Test-Path "$env:LOCALAPPDATA\com.tencent.yuanbao"
Get-ItemProperty "HKCU:\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run" -Name Yuanbao -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue
Test-Path "HKLM:\Software\Classes\yuanbao"
- No output from
Get-Processonly means this query observed no matching process; a suppressed error leaves the running state unknown. - The first
Test-PathreturningFalsemeans the program folder is gone;Truemeans files remain there. - The two data-folder
Test-Pathlines returningTruemean local data is still there, which is expected unless you removed it yourself. Get-ItemPropertyreturning values means the entry remains. With no output, check for permission or other query errors before deciding that it is absent.- The last
Test-PathreturningTruemeans the machine-wide link is still registered, which is expected after the uninstaller.
If you installed it with winget
The Tencent.Yuanbao winget package installs the same app, and winget uninstall runs the same uninstaller Settings › Apps uses. It does not touch the data folders, the startup entry or the registry keys above.
Account
Uninstalling does not sign you out on other devices, delete your Tencent account or remove your conversation history from it.

.regfile before removal. - The all-users Start Menu folder, the Public desktop shortcut and a row grouping Windows' own records of when you opened the program are selected by default.
- Items under
%ProgramData%and on the Public desktop that Windows refuses without administrator rights go through one administrator prompt for the whole batch. - The
HKLMlink and settings key and the emptyTencent\Wemeetfolder are not listed; check them with the commands above.
What this test covered
Tested on September 29, 2026 with Yuanbao 2.87.0.627 from the official installer, installed for all users, on an ARM64 virtual machine. The uninstaller is NSIS and ran silently. Every listed row was ticked and removed in this test; the HKLM link and settings key, the empty Tencent\Wemeet folder and a small font file Yuanbao wrote under %ProgramData%\Microsoft Office stayed. The font file sits in a folder named for Microsoft Office, so leave it unless you are sure nothing else uses it. Yuanbao was not signed in, so local conversation data was not checked.
