How to uninstall XMind on Windows
Your mind maps are .xmind files saved wherever you chose, and removing Xmind leaves them in place. Before you uninstall, save any open map, and if you are signed in, free this PC's device slot: Xmind limits how many computers one account can use at once. This guide covers Xmind installed per-user from the Xmind.Xmind winget package.
Free the device slot
Sign in at xmind.app/account, find the Devices List, and click Sign Out next to this PC. The free plan allows two computers and paid plans more, so a forgotten PC can block a new one. Xmind: how many devices can I use
Uninstalling does not cancel an Xmind subscription; turn off auto-renewal from your Xmind account on the web.
Quit Xmind first
Save your maps and quit Xmind, then check Task Manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc) for any Xmind.exe still listed before you uninstall.
Remove the app with its own uninstaller
Go to Settings › Apps › Installed apps, find Xmind, and choose Uninstall, or run:
winget uninstall --id Xmind.Xmind
Where the data lives
| Location | What it holds | What to do |
|---|---|---|
Wherever you saved your .xmind files |
Your maps | Keep them; they open in a reinstalled Xmind or on another computer |
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Programs\Xmind |
The program folder | The uninstaller removes it |
%APPDATA%\Xmind |
The app's own settings and caches | Safe to remove once you no longer need Xmind on this PC |
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Xmind-updater |
Downloaded update installers | Safe to remove |
Check the result
Run these read-only commands after the uninstall finishes:
Get-Process Xmind -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue
winget list --id Xmind.Xmind
Test-Path "$env:LOCALAPPDATA\Programs\Xmind"
Test-Path "$env:APPDATA\Xmind"
- No output from
Get-Processonly means this query observed no matching process; a suppressed error leaves the running state unknown. A listed process means a window is still open. - A completed
winget listquery with no match means the package record is gone; a matching row means the uninstall did not finish. - The first
Test-PathreturningFalsemeans the program folder is gone;Truemeans files remain there. Test-Path "$env:APPDATA\Xmind"returningTruemeans your settings and caches are still there, which is expected unless you removed them yourself.
If you installed it with winget
winget uninstall runs the same NSIS uninstaller Settings › Apps uses and removes the same program files; it does not touch %APPDATA%\Xmind on its own, and never touches your .xmind files.
What Mole lists
For Xmind installed per-user from winget:
- The program folder is selected by default.
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Xmind-updateris selected by default.%APPDATA%\Xmindis listed but not selected.- A Start Menu shortcut, a
xmind://link registration and anxmind-zen://link registration are selected by default; in this test the uninstaller had already removed all three before Mole's own step ran. - A file type registration under
.xmindfor the right-click shell extension is left alone, since it is shared by other apps that can open the file.
What this test covered
Tested with Xmind 26.5.1107 installed through winget, per-user scope, using its NSIS uninstaller (Uninstall Xmind.exe /currentuser /S). Every listed row was ticked and removed in this test. Not verified: a signed-in account or a saved map.
