How to uninstall WPS Office on Windows
Save documents and copy any wanted local backups outside WPS's data folders before uninstalling. For cloud documents, confirm the latest copy opens on the web and make a separate local copy where needed. This guide covers the Chinese WPS Office 12.1.0.28505 installer, not the international edition or Microsoft Store package.
Use the uninstall wizard
Close WPS documents and its tray/cloud windows, then use Settings › Apps › Installed apps › WPS Office › Uninstall. In the tested wizard, choose the direct-uninstall option instead of upgrade, repair or storage management, then confirm the uninstall. When asked whether to clear data, choose to keep local data if you want settings or backups for a reinstall.
The tested uninstaller required administrator access and asked for wps.exe to close. Adding /S did not remove the app, so finish the visible wizard rather than treating a silent command as completed. Microsoft documents the Windows removal entry point; these WPS wizard choices were observed in this test.
Review what you kept
| Observed location | What to do |
|---|---|
%LOCALAPPDATA%\kingsoft\WPS Office |
Contains versioned program folders; complete the uninstaller before reviewing it |
%LOCALAPPDATA%\kingsoft and %APPDATA%\kingsoft |
Keep wanted local data; inspect individual children instead of deleting the vendor parent |
HKCU\Software\kingsoft |
Keep shared Kingsoft settings unless ownership of an individual item is clear |
| WPS Cloud data and your chosen document folders | Preserve documents and confirm backups before any removal |
Keeping local data in the vendor wizard is separate from selecting data for removal in Mole. Uninstalling WPS does not delete a WPS account, cancel membership or remove cloud documents by itself.
Check the result
Get-Process wps -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue
winget list --id Kingsoft.WPSOffice.CN --exact
Test-Path "$env:LOCALAPPDATA\kingsoft\WPS Office"
Test-Path "$env:APPDATA\kingsoft"
No wps output means that executable is not running; check Task Manager for any remaining WPS cloud component too. No winget match means the matching package record is gone, not that all documents or settings were removed. True means a folder still exists and needs inspection, False means it is absent, and a command error leaves the check unresolved. Restart if the completed wizard requests it.
If winget installed the Chinese edition
winget uninstall --id Kingsoft.WPSOffice.CN --exact invokes the registered vendor uninstaller; its data choices still apply. Check the edition first, since the international package is a different product.
For the distinction between vendor removal and reviewing retained data, see what apps leave after uninstall.
What Mole lists
The observed %LOCALAPPDATA%\kingsoft\WPS Office folder is listed but not selected. The WPS-specific protocols, document registrations and COM entries tied to that review folder are also listed but not selected. Desktop and Start Menu shortcuts are selected by default. Shared Kingsoft parents and WPS Cloud data are not treated as WPS-only program files.
What this test covered
Tested on September 29, 2026 with the official Chinese WPS Office 12.1.0.28505 installer, per-user scope, on an ARM64 VM. Every listed review item was selected and was removed or already absent after the vendor uninstaller; the result requested a restart. A separate vendor-only uninstall kept local data. Real documents, account sync and the bundled virtual-printer driver's operation on ARM64 were not verified.
