How to uninstall Wire on Windows
This run covers Wire 3.44.5377 installed through elevated winget into the user profile, with a Squirrel uninstaller. No account or real session was created.
Close Wire before uninstalling and keep a copy of any local data or settings you want to retain.
Remove the program
Find Wire in Windows Settings under Installed apps and choose Uninstall. Mole invoked the registered Update.exe --uninstall -s in this run. Settings removal was not retested. A separate external-uninstall check is described below.
Check the result
Test-Path "$env:LOCALAPPDATA\wire"
Test-Path "$env:APPDATA\Wire"
Test-Path "HKCU:\Software\Classes\wire"
All three were False. Independent checks also found the exact uninstall registration and other reviewed targets absent. No residue was removed manually.
For your own check, a successful Test-Path query returns True when that specific path exists and False when it is absent. A query error leaves the result unresolved; neither result proves that every leftover is gone.
What Mole lists
%LOCALAPPDATA%\wire, owned shortcuts, the wire protocol and usage records are selected by default. %APPDATA%\Wire is listed but not selected by default; including app data includes this whole profile.
Cache, Code Cache, DawnGraphiteCache, DawnWebGPUCache, GPUCache and logs are separately selected by default. The profile may also contain accounts or session data, so preserve wanted content before selecting it.
What this test covered
Tested on October 4, 2026, in a Windows 11 ARM64 VM with a Mole development build, covering first launch and uninstall. Sign-in, real-session retention or restoration, other installation channels and the released download were not verified.
A separate vendor uninstall removed the installation record but left Update.exe and .dead under %LOCALAPPDATA%\wire, plus %APPDATA%\Wire. A Mole development build did not list them immediately or more than ten minutes later. This external-uninstall detection gap remains; no leftover cleanup was performed.
