How to uninstall Windows App on Windows
Save work inside your remote sessions and record the connections you need before removing Windows App. This guide covers the per-user MSIX package installed through winget, not the separate Microsoft Remote Desktop Client or Windows itself. Microsoft's Windows App overview describes the remote services it connects to.
Disconnect and uninstall
Disconnect your sessions, quit Windows App, then check Task Manager with Ctrl+Shift+Esc for remaining Windows App processes. The test showed no startup entry. Open Settings › Apps › Installed apps, find Windows App and choose Uninstall; Windows 10 uses Apps & features. Let Windows remove the package rather than deleting its WindowsApps directory.
If you installed it with winget, use:
winget uninstall --id Microsoft.WindowsApp --exact
This asks Windows to remove the installed package. It does not delete your remote computer, cancel a Windows 365 subscription or remove your organization's account.
Local data observed in testing
| Location | What it holds | What to do |
|---|---|---|
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Packages\MicrosoftCorporationII.Windows365_8wekyb3d8bbwe |
This MSIX package's local data | Save wanted connection information first; Windows removes the container with the package |
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Terminal Server Client\Triage |
A shared Remote Desktop client key | Leave it; the test found no Windows App-only value here |
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\BootToCloud |
Windows 365 system state, including PhysicalDeviceAccess | Leave it; this is not an app-data cleanup target |
These paths were observed during the test, not supplied as a vendor cleanup list. Leave the shared Microsoft and Packages parent folders alone.
Check the result
Get-AppxPackage -Name MicrosoftCorporationII.Windows365 -ErrorAction Stop | Select-Object Name, PackageFullName
Test-Path -LiteralPath "$env:LOCALAPPDATA\Packages\MicrosoftCorporationII.Windows365_8wekyb3d8bbwe" -ErrorAction Stop
A successful package query with no rows means that package is not registered for the current user. A returned row means it is still registered. True means the named data container exists; False without an error means it does not. A permissions or query error leaves the result unknown. These checks do not inspect other users or remote resources.
What Mole lists
Mole lists the package data with the Application row, selected by default. Windows handles its removal as part of uninstalling the MSIX package; this is not a separately recycled data folder. In the recorded run, the package registration disappeared and the container was already absent when leftovers were checked. The Triage and BootToCloud keys remained and are not listed for removal.
What this test covered
Windows App 2.0.1482.0 ARM64 was installed through winget and removed on October 21, 2026, in a Windows 11 ARM64 VM, using a development build of Mole. The package was installed for the current user. Signed-in workspaces, remote data, subscription changes and updates were not verified, and this run does not verify the downloadable Mole package.
