How to uninstall WeCom on Windows
If your organization manages WeCom (企业微信), chat history syncs to your organization's servers, but anything you downloaded to this PC lives only in the local folders below and will not come back from the cloud on its own. Check on your phone that the conversations you need are there, and save copies of any files you still need before removing the app. This guide covers WeCom installed machine-wide from the Tencent.WeCom winget package.
WeCom's Windows folders and registry keys are named WXWork, not WeCom; searching for a "WeCom" folder by name will not find them.
Quit WeCom first
Quit WeCom from its tray icon or window menu; closing the window can leave it running in the tray. Check Task Manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc) for any WXWork.exe still listed before you uninstall.
Remove the app with its own uninstaller
Go to Settings › Apps › Installed apps, find WeCom, and choose Uninstall, or run:
winget uninstall --id Tencent.WeCom
Because WeCom installs for every account on this PC, both the Settings row and the winget command raise a UAC prompt. WeCom's own uninstaller has no documented silent switch; Mole runs it quietly and offers the leftovers below for review afterward.
Where the data lives
| Location | What it holds | What to do |
|---|---|---|
%ProgramData%\Tencent\WXWork |
Shared local data written by every WeCom login on this machine | Removed by the uninstaller |
%APPDATA%\Tencent\WXWork |
This account's local WeCom data | Back up if you may reinstall and sign back in |
%APPDATA%\Tencent\WeMail |
Data from WeCom's built-in mail plugin, if you used it | Back up if you rely on WeCom mail |
HKCU\SOFTWARE\Tencent\WXWork |
Registry settings | Safe to remove |
| Start Menu and Public Desktop shortcuts | App shortcuts | Removed by the uninstaller |
A generic folder named VoipNNModel that some Tencent voice and call software shares is not offered as WeCom's, since it may still belong to another Tencent app on this PC.
Check the result
Run these read-only commands after the uninstall finishes:
Get-Process WXWork -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue
winget list --id Tencent.WeCom
Test-Path "${env:ProgramFiles(x86)}\WXWork"
Test-Path "$env:APPDATA\Tencent\WXWork"
- No output from
Get-Processonly means this query observed no matching process; a suppressed error leaves the running state unknown. A listed process means a window or the tray helper is still open. - A completed
winget listquery with no match means the package record is gone; a matching row means the uninstall did not finish. - The first
Test-PathreturningFalsemeans the program folder is gone;Truemeans files remain there. Test-Path "$env:APPDATA\Tencent\WXWork"returningTruemeans your local WeCom data is still there, which is expected unless you removed it yourself.
If you installed it with winget
winget uninstall runs the same uninstaller Settings › Apps uses and removes the same program files; it does not touch the WXWork folders under %APPDATA% on its own.
Account and sync
Removing the app does not sign you out of your WeCom account, remove you from your organization, or delete chat history already synced to your organization's servers. If your organization manages WeCom on this PC, check with its administrator before removing it, since they may have their own rules for chat records.
What Mole lists
For WeCom installed machine-wide from winget:
%ProgramData%\Tencent\WXWork, the Start Menu shortcut and the Public Desktop shortcut are selected by default.%APPDATA%\Tencent\WeMail,%APPDATA%\Tencent\WXWorkandHKCU\SOFTWARE\Tencent\WXWorkare listed but not selected, since they hold this account's data and settings.- Mole recognizes WeCom's data by its WXWork folder and registry names specifically; a folder just named after Tencent's other products is not offered.
What this test covered
Tested with WeCom 5.0.11.6018 installed through winget, machine scope. Every listed row was ticked and removed in this test. Not verified: signed-in chat history, an organization-managed policy, and the mail plugin's own data.
