How to uninstall Warp on Windows
Finish remote sessions, builds and local servers running in Warp before you remove it. If you are signed in, Warp Drive objects and settings sync live in your Warp account and come back when you sign in again; local themes, workflows, launch configurations, settings.toml and keybindings.yaml do not, so back up the folders below if you might reinstall. This guide covers Warp installed per-user from the vendor's installer from warp.dev. Logging out and uninstalling · File locations
Quit Warp first
Save work in every tab and quit Warp from its menu; closing a window does not end every task running in it. Warp runs as several warp.exe processes, so check Task Manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc) for any still listed before you uninstall. Warp adds itself to Settings › Apps › Startup; turn that entry off if you only want it to stop opening at sign-in.
Remove the app with its own uninstaller
Go to Settings › Apps › Installed apps, find Warp, and choose Uninstall, or run:
winget uninstall --id Warp.Warp
The uninstaller is an Inno Setup one. It removes the program folder in %LOCALAPPDATA%\Programs\Warp, the shortcuts and the folder right-click entries. In this test it left Warp's data folders, its settings key, the warp:// link and the sign-in startup entry.
Where the data lives
| Location | What it holds | What to do |
|---|---|---|
%APPDATA%\warp\Warp |
Themes, tab configs, workflows and launch configurations | Back it up if you want the same setup after reinstalling |
%LOCALAPPDATA%\warp\Warp |
settings.toml, keybindings.yaml, the local database, logs and cache |
Back up the config folder first; the rest is safe to remove for a clean start |
HKCU\Software\Warp.dev\Warp |
App preferences | Safe to remove after the app is gone |
%USERPROFILE%\.warp |
MCP configuration and skills, documented by Warp | Back it up if you use MCP servers or skills; the test did not create it |
%USERPROFILE%\.agents |
Agent configuration other tools can use too | Leave it unless you know only Warp wrote it |
Warp Preview uses WarpPreview in place of Warp in these paths and the registry key, and reads MCP configuration and skills from the same .warp folder, so keep .warp while Preview stays installed.
Check the result
Run these read-only commands after the uninstall finishes:
Get-Process warp -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue
Test-Path "$env:LOCALAPPDATA\Programs\Warp"
Test-Path "$env:LOCALAPPDATA\warp"
Test-Path "$env:APPDATA\warp"
Test-Path "HKCU:\Software\Warp.dev"
Get-ItemProperty "HKCU:\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run" -Name Warp -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue
- No output from
Get-Processonly means this query observed no matching process; a suppressed error leaves the running state unknown. A listed process means a window or helper is still open. - The first
Test-PathreturningFalsemeans the program folder is gone;Truemeans files remain there. Test-Path "$env:LOCALAPPDATA\warp"or"$env:APPDATA\warp"returningTruemeans your settings, workflows or themes are still there, which is expected unless you removed them yourself.Test-Path "HKCU:\Software\Warp.dev"returningTruemeans Warp's preferences key is still there.- The last command printing a
Warpvalue means the sign-in startup entry still points at the removed program; no matching output from a confirmed successful query means it is gone.
If you installed it with winget
The Warp.Warp winget package installs the same vendor installer, and winget uninstall runs the same uninstaller Settings › Apps uses. It does not remove the data folders, the registry key or the startup entry either.
Account and subscription
Uninstalling does not sign you out on other devices, cancel a paid Warp plan or delete your Warp account and its Warp Drive contents. Manage those in Warp's account settings.
What Mole lists
For Warp installed per-user from the vendor's installer:
- The program folder goes with the app row. The desktop and Start Menu shortcuts are selected by default.
%LOCALAPPDATA%\warpand%APPDATA%\warpare listed but not selected, since they hold your settings, workflows and themes.HKCU\Software\Warp.devis listed but not selected, and is backed up to a.regfile before removal if you tick it.- The
warp://link, the four folder right-click entries that open a new Warp tab or window, and theWarpsign-in startup entry are selected by default when they still point at the removed program, and are backed up to a.regfile first. In this test the uninstaller had already removed the right-click entries itself. - A row grouping Windows' own records of when you opened the program is selected by default.
What this test covered
Tested on September 29, 2026 with Warp v0.2026.09.09.08.26.stable_02, the arm64 build of the vendor's installer, installed per-user from an elevated session; because of that session its uninstaller asked for administrator access, which a normal per-user install does not. Every listed row was ticked and removed in this test. Not verified: a signed-in account, Warp Drive, Warp Preview, MCP servers or skills, so %USERPROFILE%\.warp never existed during the test.
