How to uninstall Vivaldi on Windows
Vivaldi can sync bookmarks, history, passwords and extensions to a Vivaldi account, but a profile that has never synced, or a saved password you have not exported, exists only on this PC. Check your sync status and export anything you need before you remove Vivaldi. This guide covers Vivaldi installed per-user from the Vivaldi.Vivaldi winget package.
Quit Vivaldi first
Vivaldi runs one process per window and helper, so close every window from its own menu, then check Task Manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc) for any vivaldi process still listed before you uninstall.
Remove the app with its own uninstaller
Go to Settings › Apps › Installed apps, find Vivaldi, and choose Uninstall, or run:
winget uninstall --id Vivaldi.Vivaldi
Vivaldi's own uninstaller opens its own window and asks "Are you sure you want to uninstall Vivaldi?" with an unchecked box for also deleting your browsing data. In a per-user install, Vivaldi keeps its program files and your profile together in one folder, so its own uninstaller removes the program but leaves that whole folder, profile included, on disk either way.
Where the data lives
| Location | What it holds | What to do |
|---|---|---|
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Vivaldi |
Your profile (bookmarks, history, saved passwords, extensions) together with what remains of the program's own files after the uninstaller runs | Personal data. Copy and verify it first if you want to keep your profile, or leave it if you plan to reinstall |
The Default Cache, Code Cache and GPUCache folders inside it |
Vivaldi's disk cache | Safe to remove once the folder above is gone |
Check the result
Run these read-only commands after the uninstall finishes:
Get-Process vivaldi -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue
winget list --id Vivaldi.Vivaldi
Test-Path "$env:LOCALAPPDATA\Vivaldi"
- No output from
Get-Processonly means this query observed no matching process; a suppressed error leaves the running state unknown. A listed process means a window or helper is still open. - A completed
winget listquery with no match means the package record is gone; a matching row means the uninstall did not finish. Test-PathreturningTruemeans your profile, and whatever the uninstaller left of the program, is still on this PC. That is expected right after running only Vivaldi's own uninstaller; remove the folder yourself, or through Mole, once you have backed up what you want to keep.
If you installed it with winget
winget uninstall runs Vivaldi's own uninstaller, which Settings › Apps also runs; it removes the program's own files but leaves %LOCALAPPDATA%\Vivaldi, profile included, on disk.
Account and sync
Uninstalling Vivaldi does not sign you out of your Vivaldi account or remove data already synced to it. If your bookmarks and passwords are fully synced, reinstalling and signing in restores them without needing the local profile folder above.
What Mole lists
For Vivaldi installed per-user from winget:
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Vivaldi, which holds your profile together with whatever the vendor uninstaller left behind, is listed as personal data: never selected and never ticked by a bulk action. Ticking it yourself is what actually clears this folder, since the vendor uninstaller does not.- Both shortcuts and the
HKCU\SOFTWARE\Vivaldiregistry key are listed but not selected. - A firewall rule Vivaldi registers is reported in the result but not removed; firewall rules are never deleted automatically.
What this test covered
Tested with Vivaldi 8.2.4133.76 installed through winget, per-user scope, and removed by choosing Uninstall in Vivaldi's own dialog without ticking its "Also delete your browsing data" box, then selecting the profile row Mole listed. Vivaldi was not signed in and sync was not exercised, so restoring synced data after removal was not tested. The historical test tool's select-all included personal-data rows, so these removal results do not establish Mole's UI bulk-selection behavior.
