How to uninstall v2rayN on Windows
Before removing v2rayN, save the server subscriptions, routing choices and any custom core configuration you intend to reuse. This guide covers the winget user installation, not every extracted ZIP distribution.
Save your data and quit
Export or copy the configuration to a separate backup location, then disconnect through v2rayN and exit its tray menu. If it enabled the Windows system proxy, restore that setting through the app before uninstalling. Do not stop an unrelated proxy or VPN. Closing the main window alone may leave the tray process running.
Uninstall the tested package
In Windows 11, open Settings › Apps › Installed apps, find v2rayN, and choose Uninstall. In Windows 10, use Settings › Apps › Apps & features. Keep the installed program folder intact until its uninstaller finishes. If this was the winget package, first confirm its exact identity:
winget list --id 2dust.v2rayN --exact
If the successful query shows the intended installation, remove that package:
winget uninstall --id 2dust.v2rayN --exact
This follows the package’s registered removal method; portable packages use their package-manager removal instead. An error or a missing winget match is not proof that the app is absent: check the Windows app list and the original installation method. Follow any vendor confirmation or restart request after saving other work. See Microsoft’s uninstall command documentation.
Data and components to check
The following locations or components need separate decisions. A remaining folder is not automatically disposable.
| Location or component | What to keep or check |
|---|---|
%LOCALAPPDATA%\v2rayN |
The tested directory contained bin, guiConfigs and guiLogs together. Copy wanted configuration before removal; do not treat the whole directory as logs. |
See v2rayN’s official documentation.
Check the outcome
winget list --id 2dust.v2rayN --exact
Test-Path -LiteralPath "$env:LOCALAPPDATA\v2rayN"
A successful package query with no matching row means that package registration was not found. A matching row means it still exists; an error leaves the result unknown. For each Test-Path, True means that exact location remains and False means it was not found; an access error does not mean it was removed. Keep deliberately retained data. Check Task Manager for a process whose executable belongs to this installation, and distinguish another version or a separate companion app before acting.
What Mole lists
Mole listed the v2rayN directory for review, unselected by default. It remained after the recorded uninstall because it was not selected. Nested logs were not separate automatically selected rows.
What this test covered
The x64 Windows test used winget v2rayN 7.25.6 installed for the current user. Its program registration was removed and the unselected data directory remained. In-app upgrading and leftover scans after uninstalling outside Mole were not tested.
These results are from a development build of Mole. Other released builds were not individually tested.
