How to uninstall Termius on Windows
Termius keeps your hosts, groups, snippets, keys and identities in an encrypted vault. With an account and a subscription the vault syncs to Termius's cloud; without one, or with the credentials sync toggle off, Termius's documentation says those credentials stay only on this PC. Before removing the app, confirm on another device that the hosts and keys you need are there, or copy out any SSH key that exists only in Termius. This guide covers Termius installed per-user from the Termius.Termius winget package.
Do not log out before uninstalling
Termius's documentation says logging out clears local data, and credentials that were not synced cannot be recovered afterward. Removing the app is a separate step and does not need a logout. If you want to keep a local-only vault for a reinstall, leave the data folder below in place.
Quit Termius first
Close open sessions and quit Termius. It runs several processes, so check Task Manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc) for any Termius.exe still listed before you uninstall.
Remove the app with its own uninstaller
Go to Settings › Apps › Installed apps, find Termius, and choose Uninstall, or run:
winget uninstall --id Termius.Termius
Where the data lives
| Location | What it holds | What to do |
|---|---|---|
%APPDATA%\Termius |
Your vault: hosts, keys, identities and snippets, plus the editor's own caches | Keep it while any host or key exists only on this PC; remove it last |
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Termius-updater |
Downloaded update installers | Safe to remove |
HKCU\Software\Classes\ssh and HKCU\Software\Classes\termius |
Registrations for ssh:// links and the termius:// protocol |
Safe to remove once Termius is uninstalled |
Check the result
Run these read-only commands after the uninstall finishes:
Get-Process Termius -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue
winget list --id Termius.Termius
Test-Path "$env:LOCALAPPDATA\Programs\Termius"
Test-Path "$env:APPDATA\Termius"
- No output from
Get-Processonly means this query observed no matching process; a suppressed error leaves the running state unknown. A listed process means a window or helper is still open. - A completed
winget listquery with no match means the package record is gone; a matching row means the uninstall did not finish. - The first
Test-PathreturningFalsemeans the program folder is gone;Truemeans files remain there. Test-Path "$env:APPDATA\Termius"returningTruemeans your vault is still there, which is expected if you kept it for a local-only setup; remove it yourself once you have confirmed a backup, if you want a clean start.
If you installed it with winget
winget uninstall runs the same uninstaller Settings › Apps uses and removes the same program files and the updater cache; it does not touch %APPDATA%\Termius on its own.
Account and subscription
Uninstalling does not cancel a Termius subscription or delete your account. Termius schedules a deleted account for removal and keeps it restorable for 30 days, as described in its account management page.
What Mole lists
For Termius installed per-user from winget:
- The install folder is selected by default.
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Termius-updateris selected by default.%APPDATA%\Termiusis listed but not selected, since Mole cannot tell whether your vault has synced. The Chromium cache folders inside it (Cache, Code Cache, Crashpad, GPUCache and the like) are separate rows selected by default.- The desktop and Start Menu shortcuts are selected by default.
- The
ssh://andtermius://registrations are selected by default. - A firewall rule Termius adds is reported after the uninstall but not removed; remove it yourself in Windows Defender Firewall with Advanced Security if you want it gone.
What this test covered
Tested with Termius 10.1.0 installed through winget, per-user scope. Every listed row was ticked and removed in this test. Not verified: a signed-in account, vault sync, or a real SSH session.
