How to uninstall Temurin JDK 8 on Windows
Check which projects still use Java 8 and keep their source and build configuration before removing this JDK.
This guide covers Eclipse Temurin JDK 8u504-b01 installed per machine with winget (WiX, x64). The program folder is %ProgramFiles%\Eclipse Adoptium\jdk-8.0.504.1-hotspot. This test saw no resident process. The launcher picked jfr.exe, and that process had already exited before the sample.
Quit java if it is still running
Close any window that still has java.exe or javaw.exe. The process table was empty this time.
Remove it with its own uninstaller
A per-machine install needs an administrator to uninstall. Use the product code from this PC's uninstall entry. This test used:
msiexec /x {74674E4F-BB33-468E-8009-63484D733EA4}
You can also uninstall Eclipse Temurin JDK with Hotspot 8u504-b01 (x64) from Settings, Apps, Installed apps.
Where the data is
After this uninstall the JDK folder was gone, and the parent %ProgramFiles%\Eclipse Adoptium was gone too. The snapshot diff had no rows. No separate user-data folder was written. The Java Update Scheduler that was already on this PC was not installed by this test, and the uninstall left it.
Check the result
Get-ItemProperty "HKLM:\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\{74674E4F-BB33-468E-8009-63484D733EA4}" -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue
Test-Path "$env:ProgramFiles\Eclipse Adoptium\jdk-8.0.504.1-hotspot"
- No output from that query does not prove the entry is absent when errors are suppressed. Confirm a successful query or an explicit missing-target result; a listed entry means it remains.
Falsefrom the second means the program folder is gone.
What Mole lists
| Location | Item | Default |
|---|---|---|
%ProgramFiles%\Eclipse Adoptium\jdk-8.0.504.1-hotspot |
Program files | Goes with the app row |
%ProgramFiles%\Eclipse Adoptium\jdk-8.0.504.1-hotspot |
Usage records for this program | Selected by default |
The selected JDK folder was removed and its usage records were already absent. The Java update task seen before this install did not belong to Temurin and was left alone.
These defaults assume Remove data and settings with apps is off. Explicit Select all or Also remove user data can include the listed personal-data rows. Check the selection before confirming. Selected files that Mole removes go to the Recycle Bin; selected registry entries are backed up before removal. The vendor uninstaller has its own deletion behavior.
What this test covered
Recorded on 2026-10-19: Temurin JDK 8, version 8.0.504.1, machine-wide, MSI, winget package EclipseAdoptium.Temurin.8.JDK. The evidence comes from an ARM64 Windows test environment and a development build of Mole. It does not certify the current downloadable package or removal of real signed-in accounts, synchronized data or production projects.
Vendor documentation. The paths and removal results above are observations from the Windows test unless explicitly attributed to the vendor.
