How to uninstall TeamViewer on Windows
End any remote session before you remove TeamViewer, and tell anyone who reaches this PC through it that it will stop answering. If the PC belongs to a TeamViewer account or a company, check with the account owner or IT first, since a managed install may be removed centrally. This guide covers TeamViewer installed machine-wide from the TeamViewer.TeamViewer winget package, which uses a Windows Installer package.
Quit TeamViewer first
Close the TeamViewer window and quit it from its tray icon. TeamViewer also installs a Windows service, TeamViewer_Service.exe, which shows in Mole's Startup list rather than in Settings › Apps › Startup. The uninstaller stops and removes it; check Task Manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc) afterwards for any TeamViewer process.
Remove the app with its own uninstaller
Go to Settings › Apps › Installed apps, find TeamViewer, and choose Uninstall, or run:
winget uninstall --id TeamViewer.TeamViewer
This is a machine-wide install, so Windows asks for administrator access. TeamViewer's own article covers uninstalling on Windows.
Where the data lives
| Location | What it holds | What to do |
|---|---|---|
%ProgramFiles%\TeamViewer |
Program files; in this test two log files and an empty ErrorReports folder stayed after the uninstall |
Check it after the uninstall and remove what is left |
%LOCALAPPDATA%\TeamViewer |
Per-user data, with a logs folder |
Keep it if you will reinstall; otherwise safe to remove |
HKCU\Software\TeamViewer |
Per-user settings | Removed by the uninstaller in this test |
| Start Menu and public desktop shortcuts | Shortcuts | Removed by the uninstaller |
Check the result
Get-Process TeamViewer* -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue
Get-Service TeamViewer -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue
winget list --id TeamViewer.TeamViewer
Test-Path "$env:ProgramFiles\TeamViewer"
Test-Path "$env:LOCALAPPDATA\TeamViewer"
- If both
Get-ProcessandGet-Servicesucceed without suppressed errors, no output means no TeamViewer program or service is left. A listed service means the uninstall did not finish; restart and run the uninstaller again. - A completed
winget listquery with no match means the package record is gone. Test-Path "$env:ProgramFiles\TeamViewer"returningTruemeans the folder with the leftover logs is still there; it holds nothing the program needs any more.Test-Path "$env:LOCALAPPDATA\TeamViewer"returningTruemeans your per-user data is still there, which is expected unless you removed it yourself.
If you installed it with winget
winget uninstall runs the same Windows Installer uninstall that Settings › Apps uses and removes the same things; it does not touch %LOCALAPPDATA%\TeamViewer or the logs left in the program folder.
Account and subscription
Uninstalling does not cancel a TeamViewer subscription, and a PC assigned to your account stays in its device list. Remove it from the device list in TeamViewer's web console if you no longer use it.
What Mole lists
For TeamViewer installed machine-wide from winget:
- The Start Menu and public desktop shortcuts are selected by default.
%LOCALAPPDATA%\TeamVieweris listed but not selected; itslogsfolder is listed on its own and selected by default.HKCU\Software\TeamVieweris listed but not selected, and backed up to a.regfile before removal.- In this test
%ProgramFiles%\TeamViewer, with the two log files and the emptyErrorReportsfolder the uninstaller left, was not listed; check it and remove it yourself after the uninstall.
What this test covered
Tested on September 28, 2026 with TeamViewer 15.81.6 installed through winget, machine scope, removed with its Windows Installer package. Every listed row was ticked and removed in this test. Not verified: a signed-in account, an assigned or managed device, or an active remote session during removal.
