How to uninstall TapTap on Windows
Your TapTap account, friends and purchases live on TapTap's servers, and games you installed through the client sit in their own install folders, so removing the client does not take those with it. Check where your games are installed in the client before you remove it if you might want to remove them too. This guide covers the TapTap PC client installed machine-wide with the official installer from taptap.cn.
Quit TapTap first
Close the window, and exit TapTap from its notification area icon if it is still there. TapTap adds itself to start when you sign in, so you can also turn that off in Settings › Apps › Startup. Check Task Manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc) for any TapTap.exe still listed before you uninstall, since a running copy keeps the program folder in use.
Remove the app with its own uninstaller
Go to Settings › Apps › Installed apps, find TapTap, and choose Uninstall. A machine-wide install asks for administrator access. TapTap's uninstaller then asks whether you are sure, with a "keep local data" box that is ticked by default; leave it ticked to keep your local data, untick it for a clean removal.
Where the data lives
| Location | What it holds | What to do |
|---|---|---|
%ProgramFiles%\TapTap |
The client program | Removed by the uninstaller once nothing is running from it |
%APPDATA%\TapTap |
The client's local data and its logs folder |
Keep it if you might reinstall; logs is safe to remove |
Start Menu TapTap folder (all users) and the public Desktop shortcut |
Shortcuts | Remove |
TapTap value in HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run |
The start-at-sign-in entry | Remove once the program is gone |
HKLM\SOFTWARE\TapTap |
A machine-wide key the client writes | Stayed after the uninstall in this test; it needs administrator access to remove |
Check the result
Run these read-only commands after the uninstall finishes:
Get-Process TapTap -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue
Test-Path "$env:ProgramFiles\TapTap"
Test-Path "$env:APPDATA\TapTap"
Get-ItemProperty "HKCU:\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run" -Name TapTap -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue
- No output from
Get-Processonly means this query observed no matching process; a suppressed error leaves the running state unknown. A listed process means it is still open, and it will keep the program folder from being removed. - The first
Test-PathreturningFalsemeans the program folder is gone;Truemeans files remain there, usually because a TapTap process was still running. - The second returning
Truemeans your local data is still there, which is expected if you kept it. Get-ItemPropertyprinting aTapTapvalue means the start-at-sign-in entry is still there.
Account
Uninstalling the client does not delete your TapTap account, and games bought or reserved there stay with the account.
What Mole lists
For the TapTap client installed machine-wide:
- The program folder goes with the app row. The Start Menu
TapTapfolder, the public Desktop shortcut and a row grouping Windows' own records of when you opened the program are selected by default. %APPDATA%\TapTapis listed but not selected; itslogsfolder is listed on its own and selected.- The
TapTapstart-at-sign-in value is listed and selected. Mole backs it up to a.regfile and removes it once the program it starts is gone. - TapTap's uninstaller does nothing when run silently, so Mole opens its own uninstall window when the silent run leaves the app installed.
HKLM\SOFTWARE\TapTapis not listed.
What this test covered
Tested on September 26, 2026 with TapTap 2026.9.22.2, installed machine-wide with the official installer after its terms box was accepted by hand. The silent run of its uninstaller exited without removing anything; its own window did remove the app's entry. One TapTap.exe process could not be ended in the test PC and kept the program folder in use, so the whole folder stayed, and a complete removal with Mole was not verified. Not verified either: a signed-in account and installed games.
