How to uninstall Tabby on Windows
Tabby is a terminal, SSH and serial client. Its configuration folder holds your terminal profiles and any saved SSH host settings, so back it up before you remove anything if you have hosts configured. This guide covers Tabby installed per-user from the Eugeny.Tabby winget package.
Quit Tabby first
Close every Tabby window and check Task Manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc) for any Tabby.exe still listed before you uninstall.
Remove the app with its own uninstaller
Go to Settings › Apps › Installed apps, find Tabby, and choose Uninstall, or run:
winget uninstall --id Eugeny.Tabby
Back up before you remove data
Copy %APPDATA%\tabby to keep your terminal profiles and any saved SSH host settings before you clear it.
Where the data lives
| Location | What it holds | What to do |
|---|---|---|
%APPDATA%\tabby |
Terminal profiles, settings and any saved SSH host configuration | Back this up first; the uninstaller does not remove it |
%LOCALAPPDATA%\tabby-updater |
Downloaded update installers | Safe to remove |
Check the result
Run these read-only commands after the uninstall finishes:
Get-Process Tabby -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue
winget list --id Eugeny.Tabby
Test-Path "$env:LOCALAPPDATA\Programs\Tabby"
Test-Path "$env:APPDATA\tabby"
- No output from
Get-Processonly means this query observed no matching process; a suppressed error leaves the running state unknown. A listed process means a window is still open. - A completed
winget listquery with no match means the package record is gone; a matching row means the uninstall did not finish. - The first
Test-PathreturningFalsemeans the program folder is gone;Truemeans files remain there. Test-Path "$env:APPDATA\tabby"returningTruemeans your terminal profiles and any saved host settings are still there, which is expected unless you removed them yourself.
If you installed it with winget
winget uninstall runs the same uninstaller Settings › Apps uses and removes the same program files; it does not touch %APPDATA%\tabby on its own.
What Mole lists
For Tabby installed per-user from winget:
- The program folder is selected by default. The Start Menu shortcut used to launch Tabby is not one of the rows Mole lists; the uninstaller removes it on its own.
%LOCALAPPDATA%\tabby-updater, which holds only downloaded update installers, is selected by default.%APPDATA%\tabbyis listed but not selected; the caches inside it are separate rows selected by default.- A
tabby://link registration, if it still points at the removed program, is listed and selected by default, backed up to a.regfile first. %APPDATA%\glasstron, a small helper folder Tabby uses for its glass blur effect, is not listed.
What this test covered
Tested with Tabby 1.0.235 installed through winget, per-user scope. A newer 1.0.237 update was available through winget at the time but was not installed. Every row was ticked and removed in this test. Not verified: saved SSH host credentials, and the glasstron helper folder.
