How to uninstall Streamlabs Desktop on Windows
Streamlabs Desktop keeps your scene collections, sources and settings in its own data folder, and the uninstaller leaves that folder in place. If you are not signed in with cloud backup on, copy that folder before you remove it, since a reinstall starts from empty scenes without it. Recordings you made stay wherever you set them to be saved. This guide covers Streamlabs Desktop installed machine-wide from the Streamlabs.Streamlabs winget package.
Quit Streamlabs Desktop first
Stop any stream or recording and close the window. Streamlabs Desktop runs many helper processes, including its OBS engine, so check Task Manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc) for Streamlabs OBS.exe, obs64.exe or crashpad_handler.exe before you uninstall. It added no startup entry in this test.
Remove the app with its own uninstaller
Go to Settings › Apps › Installed apps, find Streamlabs Desktop, and choose Uninstall, or run:
winget uninstall --id Streamlabs.Streamlabs
A machine-wide install asks for administrator access.
Where the data lives
| Location | What it holds | What to do |
|---|---|---|
%ProgramFiles%\Streamlabs OBS |
The program | Removed by the uninstaller; remove what remains once it has finished |
%APPDATA%\slobs-client |
Scene collections, settings and your sign-in | Back this up first; remove it only for a clean start |
%LOCALAPPDATA%\slobs-client-updater |
Downloaded update installers | Safe to remove |
%APPDATA%\slobs-plugins |
An empty folder | Safe to remove |
%APPDATA%\obs-studio-node-server |
Almost empty engine state | Safe to remove |
%ProgramData%\obs-studio\shader-cache |
Shader cache for the OBS engine | Leave it if OBS Studio is also installed; the folder name is shared with it |
%ProgramData%\obs-studio-hook and its values under HKCU\Software\Khronos\Vulkan\ImplicitLayers |
The game capture hook | Leave these if OBS Studio is installed, since it uses the same hook; otherwise they are no longer used |
Check the result
Run these read-only commands after the uninstall finishes:
Get-Process "Streamlabs OBS", obs64 -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue
winget list --id Streamlabs.Streamlabs
Test-Path "$env:ProgramFiles\Streamlabs OBS"
Test-Path "$env:APPDATA\slobs-client"
Test-Path "$env:ProgramData\obs-studio-hook"
- No output from
Get-Processonly means this query observed no matching process; a suppressed error leaves the running state unknown. - A completed
winget listquery with no match means the package record is gone; a matching row means the uninstall did not finish. - The first
Test-PathreturningFalsemeans the program folder is gone;Truemeans files remain there. - The second returning
Truemeans your scenes and settings are still there, which is expected unless you removed them yourself. - The third returning
Truemeans the game capture hook is still there; see the table for when to keep it.
If you installed it with winget
winget uninstall runs the same uninstaller Settings › Apps uses and removes the same program files; it does not touch %APPDATA%\slobs-client, the updater folder or anything under %ProgramData%.
Account and subscription
Uninstalling does not cancel Streamlabs Ultra or any other subscription, and it does not disconnect the streaming platforms linked to your Streamlabs account.
What Mole lists
For Streamlabs Desktop installed machine-wide from winget:
- The program folder goes with the app row. The Start Menu and public Desktop shortcuts and a row grouping Windows' own records of when you opened the program are selected by default.
%APPDATA%\slobs-clientis listed but not selected, since it holds your scenes and settings.%LOCALAPPDATA%\slobs-client-updater, which holds only downloaded installers, is selected by default.- The
slobs://link registration is listed and selected, backed up to a.regfile before removal. - The empty
slobs-plugins,obs-studio-node-server, theobs-studioshader cache and the game capture hook are not listed; check them against the table and remove them yourself if you want to.
What this test covered
Tested on September 27, 2026 with Streamlabs Desktop 1.21.9 installed through winget, machine scope. Its NSIS uninstaller ran silently and removed the shortcuts; the program folder was still there when Mole's step ran, so Mole moved it to the Recycle Bin. Every listed row was ticked and removed in this test. Not verified: a signed-in account, cloud backup of scene collections, and a PC with OBS Studio also installed.
