How to uninstall Sohu Player on Windows
Keep downloaded videos and wanted playback information before removing Sohu Player. The version-specific SHApp folder is not the same thing as the shared SHApp parent or every SOHU registry entry.
Save your data and quit
Check the download location in the client and copy wanted personal files first. Finish downloads and exit the client before uninstalling. Read any option about keeping history or downloaded content rather than assuming its meaning from an older online tutorial.
Uninstall the tested package
In Windows 11, open Settings › Apps › Installed apps, find Sohu Player, and choose Uninstall. In Windows 10, use Settings › Apps › Apps & features. Keep the installed program folder intact until its uninstaller finishes. If this was the winget package, first confirm its exact identity:
winget list --id Sohu.SHPlayer --exact
If the successful query shows the intended installation, remove that package:
winget uninstall --id Sohu.SHPlayer --exact
This follows the package’s registered removal method; portable packages use their package-manager removal instead. An error or a missing winget match is not proof that the app is absent: check the Windows app list and the original installation method. Follow any vendor confirmation or restart request after saving other work. See Microsoft’s uninstall command documentation.
Data and components to check
The following locations or components need separate decisions. A remaining folder is not automatically disposable.
| Location or component | What to keep or check |
|---|---|
%APPDATA%\SHApp\7.3.4.0 |
The exact version leaf tested. A different installed version needs its own matching leaf; never remove the SHApp parent wholesale. |
| Saved videos and playback history | Review the actual configured locations and back up wanted content before selecting data removal. |
See Sohu Player’s official website.
Check the outcome
winget list --id Sohu.SHPlayer --exact
Test-Path -LiteralPath "$env:APPDATA\SHApp\7.3.4.0"
A successful package query with no matching row means that package registration was not found. A matching row means it still exists; an error leaves the result unknown. For each Test-Path, True means that exact location remains and False means it was not found; an access error does not mean it was removed. Keep deliberately retained data. Check Task Manager for a process whose executable belongs to this installation, and distinguish another version or a separate companion app before acting.
What Mole lists
Mole offers only the matching four-part SHApp version directory for review, unselected by default. Explicit review in the test removed that leaf while retaining its parent. Firewall entries and shared SOHU or file-association state were retained.
What this test covered
Sohu Player 7.3.4.0 was uninstalled from the user account, and a separate check confirmed that its version folder was gone. Version upgrading, leftover scans after uninstalling outside Mole and uninstalling while a DLL is still in use were not tested.
These results are from a development build of Mole. Other released builds were not individually tested.
