How to uninstall SmartGit on Windows
Keep repositories and local changes, and back up SmartGit settings before uninstalling.
This guide covers SmartGit installed per machine with winget (Inno, a 32-bit program folder). The uninstall entry had no DisplayVersion. The first-run wizard in this test stayed on Style and was closed with Exit. No user information was entered and the license was not accepted.
Quit SmartGit first
Close SmartGit. This test saw one smartgit.exe while it was running.
Remove it with its own uninstaller
A per-machine install needs an administrator to uninstall.
& "${env:ProgramFiles(x86)}\SmartGit\unins000.exe"
Add /SILENT for a silent uninstall.
Where the data is
| Location | What it holds | What to do |
|---|---|---|
%ProgramFiles(x86)%\SmartGit |
The program | Removed by the silent uninstall in this test |
%APPDATA%\syntevo\SmartGit |
Settings, about 1 MB | Removed this time. This is review data. Delete it only after you know you do not need the repository settings |
%APPDATA%\syntevo |
An empty publisher folder | Still there after the child folder is removed |
HKCU\Software\ej-technologies\exe4j\jvms |
A subkey pointing at this install's jre\bin\java.exe |
Still there after the program is gone. Other programs can use exe4j, so do not delete the whole tree |
Check the result
Get-Process smartgit -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue
Test-Path "${env:ProgramFiles(x86)}\SmartGit"
Test-Path "$env:APPDATA\syntevo\SmartGit"
- No output from
Get-Processonly means no matching process was seen. Falseon the second line means the program folder is gone.Falseon the third means the settings folder is gone. The empty%APPDATA%\syntevofolder can still be there.
What Mole lists
| Location | Item | Default |
|---|---|---|
%ProgramFiles(x86)%\SmartGit |
Program files | Goes with the app row |
%APPDATA%\syntevo\SmartGit |
Settings or app data; review before removal | Listed but not selected |
%ProgramData%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\SmartGit |
Shortcut | Selected by default |
%ProgramFiles(x86)%\SmartGit |
Usage records for this program | Selected by default |
The selected program and SmartGit settings were removed; shortcuts and usage records were already absent. The empty syntevo parent stayed. A JVM record under HKCU\Software\ej-technologies\exe4j\jvms still pointed to the former SmartGit JRE and was not listed. Do not delete the shared ej-technologies root.
These defaults assume Remove data and settings with apps is off. Explicit Select all or Also remove user data can include the listed personal-data rows. Check the selection before confirming. Selected files that Mole removes go to the Recycle Bin; selected registry entries are backed up before removal. The vendor uninstaller has its own deletion behavior.
What this test covered
Recorded on 2026-10-19: SmartGit, version not recorded in the uninstall entry, machine-wide, InnoSetup, winget package Syntevo.SmartGit. The evidence comes from an ARM64 Windows test environment and a development build of Mole. It does not certify the current downloadable package or removal of real signed-in accounts, synchronized data or production projects.
Vendor documentation. The paths and removal results above are observations from the Windows test unless explicitly attributed to the vendor.
