How to uninstall SignalRGB on Windows
SignalRGB keeps your lighting layouts, effects and device settings in its data folders under %LOCALAPPDATA%\WhirlwindFX and %APPDATA%\WhirlwindFX. Copy them first if you might reinstall. Its uninstaller removes the app but, in this test, left behind a background service and a hidden Store package it installs alongside, so plan to check for both afterwards. This guide covers SignalRGB installed per-user from the WhirlwindFX.SignalRgb winget package.
Quit SignalRGB first
SignalRGB adds a startup entry and sits in the tray. Right-click its tray icon and exit, or turn the entry off in Settings › Apps › Startup, then check Task Manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc) for any SignalRgb process still listed. The SignalRgb.Service Windows service keeps running on its own; it shows in the Services tab of Task Manager, not in Settings › Apps › Startup.
Remove the app with its own uninstaller
Go to Settings › Apps › Installed apps, find SignalRGB, and choose Uninstall, or run:
winget uninstall --id WhirlwindFX.SignalRgb
Remove what the uninstaller leaves running
After the uninstall, open Services (services.msc) as an administrator, stop SignalRgb.Service, and set its startup type to Disabled. Its program lives in %LOCALAPPDATA%\WhirlwindFX\SignalRgb\service, and that folder cannot be moved to the Recycle Bin while the service holds it.
SignalRGB also installs a hidden Store package with the same name, which Settings does not show. If the check below lists it, you can remove it for your account in PowerShell with Get-AppxPackage *SignalRgb* | Remove-AppxPackage.
Where the data lives
| Location | What it holds | What to do |
|---|---|---|
%LOCALAPPDATA%\WhirlwindFX\SignalRgb |
Program files, including the service's program | Files remain here while the service runs from it; remove what is left once the service is stopped |
SignalRGB's data folders under %LOCALAPPDATA%\WhirlwindFX and %APPDATA%\WhirlwindFX |
Layouts, effects, device settings, caches and logs | Back up if you might reinstall; the caches and logs are safe to remove |
%LOCALAPPDATA%\WhirlwindFX and %APPDATA%\WhirlwindFX |
Vendor parent folders | Empty once the folders above are gone; remove them yourself |
HKCU\Software\WhirlwindFX\SignalRgb |
Settings | The uninstaller may write it back while it runs; remove it afterwards if it is still there |
HKCU\Software\Classes\signalrgb |
The signalrgb:// link registration |
Safe to remove once the app is gone |
Check the result
Run these read-only commands after the uninstall finishes:
Get-Process SignalRgb* -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue
winget list --id WhirlwindFX.SignalRgb
Get-Service SignalRgb.Service -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue
Get-AppxPackage *SignalRgb*
Test-Path "$env:LOCALAPPDATA\WhirlwindFX"
Test-Path HKCU:\Software\WhirlwindFX\SignalRgb
- No output from
Get-Processonly means this query observed no matching process; a suppressed error leaves the running state unknown. - A completed
winget listquery with no match means the package record is gone; a matching row means the uninstall did not finish. - A row from
Get-Servicemeans the service is still registered; check that it is stopped and disabled. No matching output from a confirmed successful query means it is gone. - Output from
Get-AppxPackagemeans the hidden package is still installed for your account. Test-Path "$env:LOCALAPPDATA\WhirlwindFX"returningTruemeans program files or data remain there.- The last
Test-PathreturningTruemeans the settings key is still there.
If you installed it with winget
winget uninstall runs the same uninstaller Settings › Apps uses and leaves the same service and hidden package behind.
Account and subscription
Uninstalling does not cancel a SignalRGB Pro subscription or delete your account.
What Mole lists
For SignalRGB installed per-user from winget:
- The program folder goes with the app row, selected by default.
- The shortcuts, the
signalrgb://link and the sign-in entry are selected by default; the link and the sign-in entry are backed up to a.regfile before removal. - The caches and logs are listed on their own and selected.
- The data folders under
%LOCALAPPDATA%\WhirlwindFXand%APPDATA%\WhirlwindFXare listed but not selected. - When the uninstaller writes
HKCU\Software\WhirlwindFX\SignalRgbback after the review, the result shows it in a separate section, not selected, with its own Move to Recycle Bin link. - The
SignalRgb.Serviceservice and the hidden Store package are not removed. The emptyWhirlwindFXparent folders and a few generic Firebase cache folders, whose names do not say which app wrote them, are not listed.
What this test covered
Tested on 2026-09-27 with SignalRGB installed through winget on an ARM64 virtual machine, with no lighting devices attached. Every listed row was ticked and removed; the service and the hidden package stayed. Not verified: real RGB hardware, a signed-in account, and SignalRGB Pro.
