How to uninstall Redis Insight on Windows
Redis Insight is Redis's own GUI client. It keeps a log folder and a local database of your saved connections in a hidden folder in your user profile, separate from the Redis servers you connect to, so look through it before you remove anything. This guide covers Redis Insight installed per-user from the RedisInsight.RedisInsight winget package.
Quit Redis Insight first
Close every Redis Insight window and check Task Manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc) for any Redis Insight process still listed before you uninstall. Removing the app does not delete or change any Redis server it connected to.
Remove the app with its own uninstaller
Go to Settings › Apps › Installed apps, find Redis Insight, and choose Uninstall, or run:
winget uninstall --id RedisInsight.RedisInsight
Where the data lives
| Location | What it holds | What to do |
|---|---|---|
%APPDATA%\RedisInsight |
Settings and cache | Back this up if you want the same setup after reinstalling |
%LOCALAPPDATA%\RedisInsight-updater |
Downloaded update installers | Safe to remove |
%USERPROFILE%\.redis-insight |
Log files and a local database of your saved connections, per Redis's own documentation | Listed for review, not selected by default; back up saved connections before removing it |
Check the result
Run these read-only commands after the uninstall finishes:
Get-Process "Redis Insight" -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue
winget list --id RedisInsight.RedisInsight
Test-Path "$env:LOCALAPPDATA\Programs\Redis Insight"
Test-Path "$env:APPDATA\RedisInsight"
Test-Path "$env:USERPROFILE\.redis-insight"
- No output from
Get-Processonly means this query observed no matching process; a suppressed error leaves the running state unknown. - A completed
winget listquery with no match means the package record is gone; a matching row means the uninstall did not finish. - The first
Test-PathreturningFalsemeans the program folder is gone;Truemeans files remain there. Test-Path "$env:APPDATA\RedisInsight"returningTruemeans your settings and cache are still there, which is expected unless you removed them yourself.Test-Path "$env:USERPROFILE\.redis-insight"returningTruemeans your logs and saved connections database are still there; keeping it is expected if you chose to retain your data; back up saved connections before selecting it for removal.
If you installed it with winget
winget uninstall runs the same uninstaller Settings › Apps uses and removes the same program files; it does not touch %APPDATA%\RedisInsight or %USERPROFILE%\.redis-insight on its own.
What Mole lists
For Redis Insight installed per-user from winget:
- The program folder, both shortcuts and the
redisinsightlink registration are selected by default. %LOCALAPPDATA%\RedisInsight-updater, which holds only downloaded update installers, is selected by default.%APPDATA%\RedisInsightis listed but not selected by default; the caches inside it are listed on their own and selected.- Two firewall rules this app registers are reported in the result but not removed; firewall rules are never deleted automatically.
%USERPROFILE%\.redis-insightis listed for review and is not selected by default.
What this test covered
Retested on October 3, 2026 with Redis Insight 3.4.2 installed through winget, per-user scope, on an ARM64 VM. The review included .redis-insight, which was removed after selecting it. The updater folder could not be removed in the first run, and a fresh app-list read found Redis Insight 3.8.0 installed after the automatic update. A second uninstall removed 3.8.0 and its updater folder, and the app-list read confirmed it was gone. Do not treat an uninstaller returning success as proof that no newer version remains. Signing in, connecting to a live Redis server and a full second measurement of 3.8.0 were not tested.
