How to uninstall Rainmeter on Windows
This record covers Rainmeter 4.5.26, installed through Rainmeter.Rainmeter with machine scope. Quit the app, then remove it from Windows Installed apps.
Close the app
Close the app window and tray entry, then check Task Manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc) for Rainmeter.exe.
Data and settings
Back up these folders when keeping local data or settings. A surviving data folder does not mean the uninstall failed.
| Location | Action |
|---|---|
%APPDATA%\Rainmeter |
Inspect contents; keep or back up local data |
Uninstall with WinGet
winget uninstall --id Rainmeter.Rainmeter --exact
The --id and --exact options are documented in Microsoft Learn.
Check the result
Get-Process -Name 'Rainmeter' -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue
winget list --id Rainmeter.Rainmeter --exact
Test-Path "$env:APPDATA\Rainmeter"
No process output means only that the process is not running. A completed winget query with no match means the package is no longer listed; a query error does not prove removal. Test-Path returns True when the data folder remains and False when that path is absent. True is expected when keeping data.
What Mole lists
Mole reviewed the program folder and Start menu shortcut with default selection. %APPDATA%\Rainmeter was unselected by default and was removed when selected in this test. Custom skins and user documents were not tested, so program removal does not establish their deletion.
What this test covered
Recorded on 2026-10-03 for version 4.5.26, using vendor NSIS uninstaller.
This record comes from a source build tested in a Windows 11 ARM64 VM. Signed-in accounts, synced content and other installation channels were not tested. Delayed leftover detection after an external uninstall is a separate check.
