How to uninstall pgAdmin 4 on Windows
pgAdmin 4 keeps your registered servers, preferences and saved queries in its own data folder, not in the databases it connects to, so uninstalling it never touches a PostgreSQL server. Before removing the app, export your server list with Tools › Import/Export Servers so you can bring it back later; the export never includes passwords, so note those separately. Import/Export Servers This guide covers pgAdmin 4 installed per-user from the PostgreSQL.pgAdmin winget package.
Quit pgAdmin 4 first
Close the pgAdmin 4 window. The desktop app runs its own window process, pgAdmin4.exe, plus a bundled Python backend, python.exe, from its program folder. Check Task Manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc) that neither is still listed under pgAdmin 4 before you uninstall.
Remove the app with its own uninstaller
Go to Settings › Apps › Installed apps, find pgAdmin 4, and choose Uninstall, or run:
winget uninstall --id PostgreSQL.pgAdmin
Where the data lives
| Location | What it holds | What to do |
|---|---|---|
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Programs\pgAdmin 4 |
Program files, including the bundled Python | The uninstaller removes it |
%APPDATA%\pgAdmin |
The settings database with your registered servers and preferences, and the log pgadmin4.log (pgAdmin FAQ) |
Export your servers first; keep it if you plan to reinstall, remove it for a clean start |
%APPDATA%\pgadmin4 |
Data of the desktop window | Safe to remove once pgAdmin is gone |
Check the result
Run these read-only commands after the uninstall finishes:
Get-Process pgAdmin4 -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue
winget list --id PostgreSQL.pgAdmin
Test-Path "$env:LOCALAPPDATA\Programs\pgAdmin 4"
Test-Path "$env:APPDATA\pgAdmin"
Test-Path "$env:APPDATA\pgadmin4"
- No output from
Get-Processonly means this query observed no matching process; a suppressed error leaves the running state unknown. A listed process means a window is still open. - A completed
winget listquery with no match means the package record is gone; a matching row means the uninstall did not finish. - The first
Test-PathreturningFalsemeans the program folder is gone;Truemeans files remain there. Test-Path "$env:APPDATA\pgAdmin"returningTruemeans your settings database is still there, which is expected unless you removed it yourself.Test-Path "$env:APPDATA\pgadmin4"returningTruemeans the desktop window's data is still there; remove it yourself if you do not plan to reinstall.
If you installed it with winget
winget uninstall runs the same Inno Setup uninstaller Settings › Apps uses and removes the same program files; it does not touch %APPDATA%\pgAdmin or %APPDATA%\pgadmin4 on its own.
What Mole lists
For pgAdmin 4 installed per-user from winget:
- The program folder goes with the app row. The Start Menu folder and a row grouping Windows' own records of when you opened the program are selected by default.
%APPDATA%\pgAdminand%APPDATA%\pgadmin4are listed but not selected, since the first holds your servers and preferences.- Databases and PostgreSQL servers are never part of this list.
What this test covered
Tested on 2026-09-28 with pgAdmin 4 9.18 installed through winget, per-user scope. The test installed it from an elevated session, so its uninstaller asked for administrator access; a normal per-user install does not. Every listed row was ticked and removed in this test. Not verified: registered servers, saved passwords, or the Import/Export Servers round trip.
