How to uninstall Open WebUI Desktop on Windows
This guide covers Open WebUI Desktop 0.0.20 for Windows. Back up the client settings you want to keep before uninstalling. This test did not connect a model or sign in to a server.
Uninstall the app
Find Open WebUI in Settings > Apps > Installed apps, or run this PowerShell command to invoke the desktop app's own uninstaller.
winget uninstall --id OpenWebUI.OpenWebUI --exact
Check the result
winget list --id OpenWebUI.OpenWebUI --exact
Test-Path "$env:LOCALAPPDATA\Programs\open-webui"
Test-Path "$env:LOCALAPPDATA\open-webui-updater"
Test-Path "$env:APPDATA\open-webui"
A successful winget query with no match means the desktop package registration is absent; a query error leaves that unknown. False from Test-Path only means that path is absent, not that a remote server, chats or models were deleted.
What Mole lists
The program folder %LOCALAPPDATA%\Programs\open-webui, this app's %LOCALAPPDATA%\open-webui-updater, shortcuts and usage records are selected by default. %APPDATA%\open-webui is listed but not selected by default, with measured disk caches and logs offered separately as default items.
Also Remove Data selects the entire data for review folder. No retention case with real chats or account data was tested. These desktop folders do not represent an Open WebUI server in Docker, WSL or on another host, and do not justify removing its data volumes.
What this test covered
Tested on October 4, 2026, in a Windows 11 ARM64 VM with a Mole development build, using the per-user NSIS package installed through winget. First launch and uninstall were checked. Conversation recovery, sign-in, model services, other installation channels, external-uninstall detection and the released download were not verified.
