How to uninstall ngrok on Windows
Save any ngrok configuration you want to reuse and stop the endpoints this computer serves before removing the agent. Uninstalling the local command does not cancel the ngrok account or its paid resources.
Save your data and quit
Run ngrok config check while the agent is still installed to locate and validate its actual configuration. Stop the interactive agent with its normal terminal interrupt. If you deliberately installed it as a service, use the documented ngrok service stop and ngrok service uninstall before retiring that service installation. Do not interrupt an endpoint somebody still depends on.
Uninstall the tested package
In Windows 11, open Settings › Apps › Installed apps, find ngrok, and choose Uninstall. In Windows 10, use Settings › Apps › Apps & features. Keep the installed program folder intact until its uninstaller finishes. If this was the winget package, first confirm its exact identity:
winget list --id Ngrok.Ngrok --exact
If the successful query shows the intended installation, remove that package:
winget uninstall --id Ngrok.Ngrok --exact
This follows the package’s registered removal method; portable packages use their package-manager removal instead. An error or a missing winget match is not proof that the app is absent: check the Windows app list and the original installation method. Follow any vendor confirmation or restart request after saving other work. See Microsoft’s uninstall command documentation.
Data and components to check
The following locations or components need separate decisions. A remaining folder is not automatically disposable.
| Location or component | What to keep or check |
|---|---|
ngrok config check |
Use the reported configuration path. Keep endpoint definitions and protect any authentication material in the backup. |
| ngrok account and endpoints | Review retained online resources separately; removing a local executable does not revoke credentials or remove every endpoint. |
See ngrok’s official documentation.
Check the outcome
winget list --id Ngrok.Ngrok --exact
A successful package query with no matching row means that package registration was not found. A matching row means it still exists; an error leaves the result unknown. Keep deliberately retained data. Check Task Manager for a process whose executable belongs to this installation, and distinguish another version or a separate companion app before acting.
What Mole lists
The portable package installed for the current user had no separate cleanup rows. Service installations and custom configuration files need separate checks.
What this test covered
ngrok 3.3.1 was started as a process and its portable winget package removed. No actual upgrade or separately installed service removal was verified, and the run did not verify online account changes.
These results are from a development build of Mole. Other released builds were not individually tested.
