How to uninstall Msty Studio on Windows
Export what you want to keep before you remove Msty Studio. Settings › Export Data saves all of your data as one zip file, and a single workspace can be exported by right-clicking its icon and choosing Export Workspace (Msty's backup page). Local models can live outside the app's own folder, depending on the engine that runs them, so open Model Hub › Local Models › Installed, note each model's location, and uninstall the models you no longer want from that list (Msty's local models page). This guide covers Msty Studio installed per-user from the installer on msty.ai.
Quit Msty Studio first
Quit Msty Studio from its window, then check Task Manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc) that no MstyStudio.exe is still listed; it runs several of them at once. In this test it added no startup entry.
Remove the app with its own uninstaller
Go to Settings › Apps › Installed apps, find MstyStudio, and choose Uninstall. The uninstaller removes the program files in %LOCALAPPDATA%\Programs\MstyStudio and the shortcuts, and leaves your data folder and downloaded updates.
The older Msty App (1.x) is a separate installation; removing Msty Studio does not remove it.
Where the data lives
| Location | What it holds | What to do |
|---|---|---|
%APPDATA%\MstyStudio |
The app's local data and its caches | Keep it until your export is verified; remove it only when you are done with Msty Studio |
%LOCALAPPDATA%\MstyStudio-updater |
Downloaded update installers | Safe to remove |
| The model locations you noted | Local models | Decide per model; a folder elsewhere is not removed with the app |
Check the result
Run these read-only commands after the uninstall finishes:
Get-Process MstyStudio -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue
Test-Path "$env:LOCALAPPDATA\Programs\MstyStudio"
Test-Path "$env:APPDATA\MstyStudio"
Test-Path "$env:LOCALAPPDATA\MstyStudio-updater"
- No output from
Get-Processonly means this query observed no matching process; a suppressed error leaves the running state unknown. A listed process means the app or a helper is still open. - The first
Test-PathreturningFalsemeans the program folder is gone;Truemeans files remain there. Test-Path "$env:APPDATA\MstyStudio"returningTruemeans your local data is still there, which is expected if you kept it.Test-Path "$env:LOCALAPPDATA\MstyStudio-updater"returningTruemeans downloaded updates are still there; they are safe to remove.
Also check the model locations you wrote down; a model elsewhere still takes its space.
Account and license
Msty's download page notes that Studio Desktop counts against an Aurum license's activated devices. Removing the app is not a deactivation, and it does not cancel the license.
What Mole lists
For Msty Studio installed per-user from msty.ai:
- The program folder goes with the app row. The Start Menu and desktop shortcuts are selected by default.
%LOCALAPPDATA%\MstyStudio-updater, which holds only downloaded update installers, is selected by default.%APPDATA%\MstyStudiois listed but not selected, since it holds your data. The caches inside it (Cache,Code Cache,GPUCache, the Dawn shader caches andlogs) are listed on their own and selected by default.- The
msty://link registration the uninstaller leaves behind, and a row grouping Windows' own records of when you opened the program, are selected by default; the link is backed up to a.regfile before removal. - Model folders outside these paths were not part of the test, so this guide makes no claim about them.
What this test covered
Tested on 2026-09-29 with Msty Studio 2.9.11 from the x64 installer on msty.ai, per-user scope, installed from an elevated session on an ARM64 PC. The uninstaller is NSIS and ran silently. The app was launched once and no model was installed, so removing models was not verified. Every listed row was ticked and removed in this test.
