How to uninstall Miniconda on Windows
Miniconda's own uninstaller removes its entire install folder, environments and packages included, so there is no separate cleanup step for the program itself; back up any environment you built before you uninstall if you want to recreate it later. This guide covers Miniconda installed for all users from the Anaconda.Miniconda3 winget package.
Quit anything using conda first
Close any terminal with an activated conda environment or a running Jupyter server. Check Task Manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc) for python.exe or conda.exe before you uninstall.
Remove the app with its own uninstaller
Go to Settings › Apps › Installed apps, find Miniconda3, and choose Uninstall, or run:
winget uninstall --id Anaconda.Miniconda3
Where the data lives
| Location | What it holds | What to do |
|---|---|---|
ProgramData\miniconda3 |
The whole install: the base Python, every environment you created with conda create, and every package in them |
Removed whole by the uninstaller; back up anything inside an environment you want to keep, such as a project's own code, before you uninstall |
%USERPROFILE%\.conda |
A small per-user file, environments.txt, listing environments conda has seen |
Not touched by the uninstaller; safe to remove, conda recreates it as needed |
Check the result
Run these read-only commands after the uninstall finishes:
conda --version
winget list --id Anaconda.Miniconda3
Test-Path "$env:ProgramData\miniconda3"
Test-Path "$env:USERPROFILE\.conda"
conda --versionfailing with "not recognized" means conda is gone from your PATH; printing a version means either the uninstall did not finish or another conda install is still on your machine.- A completed
winget listquery with no match means the package record is gone; a matching row means the uninstall did not finish. Test-Path "$env:ProgramData\miniconda3"returningFalsemeans the whole install, environments included, is gone;Truemeans it is still there.Test-Path "$env:USERPROFILE\.conda"returningTruemeans this small tracking file is still there, which is expected unless you removed it yourself.
If you installed it with winget
winget uninstall runs the same NSIS uninstaller (Uninstall-Miniconda3.exe /S) Settings › Apps uses and removes the same install folder; it does not touch %USERPROFILE%\.conda.
What Mole lists
For Miniconda installed for all users from winget:
ProgramData\miniconda3is listed, for review, not selected by default, since it holds every environment and package you created, not just program files.- In this test the vendor's own uninstaller had already removed
ProgramData\miniconda3before Mole's review ran, so ticking it moved nothing further. %USERPROFILE%\.condais not part of this list.
What this test covered
Tested with Miniconda py314_26.7.1-1 installed through the x64 NSIS package (no arm64 package exists for this app), all-users scope, elevated. No environment was created and no Anaconda Prompt session was run during the test, so removing a machine with real environments and credentials cached by conda channels was not verified.
