How to uninstall MakeMKV on Windows
This check installed MakeMKV 2.0.0 with winget in a Windows 11 VM, opened its drive list, and removed it with Mole. No disc was inserted, no movie was exported, and no license was entered.
Remove MakeMKV
Select MakeMKV in Mole's Apps tab. The review showed the program folder, desktop shortcut, Start menu folder, and usage record selected by default. HKCU\SOFTWARE\MakeMKV was a review row left off by default. This run selected all bulk eligible rows. Mole ran the registered NSIS uninstaller once with uninst.exe /S and returned Removed. The vendor had already removed the program folder and both shortcuts. Mole reported Removed for the usage record and user registry key.
Check the result
Test-Path "${env:ProgramFiles(x86)}\MakeMKV"
Test-Path 'HKLM:\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\MakeMKV'
Test-Path 'HKCU:\SOFTWARE\MakeMKV'
Test-Path "$HOME\.MakeMKV"
Test-Path "$env:ProgramFiles\Common Files\cdarbsvc"
Get-CimInstance Win32_Service -ErrorAction Stop | Where-Object Name -eq 'CdRomArbiterService' | Select-Object Name, State, StartMode, PathName
The first three paths returned False in this VM; the last two directories remained. CdRomArbiterService was still running with automatic startup, and its executable remained in Common Files\cdarbsvc. The .MakeMKV profile contained one _private_data.tar file. Both appeared during this installation and were not offered by Mole. Neither was manually deleted. The service needs a separate decision about machine wide ownership and privileges; the profile should be treated as user data for review.
What Mole lists
The program folder, desktop and Start menu shortcuts, and usage records are selected by default. The HKCU\SOFTWARE\MakeMKV settings key is listed but not selected by default; leave it unchecked to keep settings.
What this test covered
Tested on October 5, 2026, in a Windows 11 ARM64 VM with a Mole development build, covering first launch and uninstall. Disc conversion, other installation channels and the released download were not verified. Automatic detection after an external uninstall was not verified.
