How to uninstall Listary on Windows
Listary has to be closed before its own uninstaller can finish; its window refuses to proceed while the app is still running, even under a silent switch. This guide covers Listary installed machine-wide from the Bopsoft.Listary winget package.
Quit Listary first
Right-click the Listary tray icon and quit it, then check Task Manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc) for Listary.exe, Listary.Service.exe, ListaryHookHost64.exe and ListaryHookHost32.exe before you uninstall. Listary also runs a background service (Listary Service) and starts itself at sign-in; if you plan to stop using it, turn that off in Settings › Apps › Startup too.
Remove the app with its own uninstaller
Go to Settings › Apps › Installed apps, find Listary, and choose Uninstall, or run:
winget uninstall --id Bopsoft.Listary
If a dialog says Listary is still running, quit every process listed above and click OK again; it will not proceed while the app or its service is open.
Where the data lives
| Location | What it holds | What to do |
|---|---|---|
%APPDATA%\Listary |
Your indexing and search settings | Back this up first if you want the same setup after reinstalling |
Check the result
Run these read-only commands after the uninstall finishes:
Get-Process Listary -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue
winget list --id Bopsoft.Listary
Test-Path "${env:ProgramFiles(x86)}\Listary"
Test-Path "$env:APPDATA\Listary"
Get-Service ListaryServiceV2 -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue
- No output from
Get-Processonly means this query observed no matching process; a suppressed error leaves the running state unknown. - A completed
winget listquery with no match means the package record is gone; a matching row means the uninstall did not finish. - The first
Test-PathreturningFalsemeans the program folder is gone;Truemeans files remain there. Test-Path "$env:APPDATA\Listary"returningTruemeans your settings are still there, which is expected unless you removed them yourself.- If
Get-Servicesucceeds without suppressed errors, no match means the Listary Service is gone; a service object means it is still registered.
If you installed it with winget
winget uninstall runs the same Inno Setup uninstaller Settings › Apps uses and removes the same program files, the login item and the service; it does not touch %APPDATA%\Listary on its own.
What Mole lists
For Listary installed machine-wide from winget:
- The program folder, the Start Menu folder and the login-item Run value are selected by default.
%APPDATA%\Listaryis listed but not selected, since it holds your settings.
What this test covered
Tested with Listary 6.3 installed through winget, machine-wide scope. The installer's own network source was unreachable in the test environment, so the test ran the same installer package with a silent switch from an elevated session instead of through winget install directly; the uninstall path is unaffected by that. The uninstaller's own window asked to close the running app before it would continue, which this guide's Quit step avoids. Not verified: a paid Listary Pro license.
