How to uninstall KOOK on Windows
Your KOOK servers, friends and messages live on KOOK's servers, so uninstalling the desktop client does not delete them; the local data folder holds your login, settings and caches. This guide covers KOOK installed per-user from the Microsoft Store listing XP8M8FCMH4424Z through winget, which installs KOOK's own desktop client into your profile.
Quit KOOK first
Quit KOOK from its tray icon, not just the window, since closing the window keeps it running. KOOK runs several KOOK.exe processes at once; check Task Manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc) that none is still listed before you uninstall. KOOK added no startup item in this test.
Remove the app with its own uninstaller
Go to Settings › Apps › Installed apps, find KOOK, and choose Uninstall, or run:
winget uninstall --id XP8M8FCMH4424Z
KOOK's uninstaller shows two windows of its own. The first asks you to confirm and has an unticked box, 同时删除本地缓存的登录信息 (also delete the cached login); tick it only if you want the saved login gone too. The second tells you the uninstall is finished.
Where the data lives
| Location | What it holds | What to do |
|---|---|---|
%LOCALAPPDATA%\KOOK |
Program files, including older app versions kept for updates | The uninstaller removes it |
%APPDATA%\KOOK |
Login, settings and the client's caches and logs | Keep it if you plan to reinstall; remove it to clear the saved login |
HKCU\Software\KOOK |
Client settings | Safe to remove once KOOK is gone |
HKCU\Software\KaiHeiLa |
Settings under KOOK's former name, 开黑啦 | Safe to remove once KOOK is gone |
HKCU\Software\Classes\kook |
The kook:// link |
Safe to remove once KOOK is gone |
%LOCALAPPDATA%\SquirrelTemp |
Files the installer framework keeps, shared by every app installed the same way | Not KOOK's alone; leave it |
| Two Windows Defender Firewall rules for KOOK | Let the client accept connections | Remove them in Windows Defender Firewall › Advanced settings if you want; they do nothing without the program |
Check the result
Run these read-only commands after the uninstall finishes:
Get-Process KOOK -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue
winget list --id XP8M8FCMH4424Z
Test-Path "$env:LOCALAPPDATA\KOOK"
Test-Path "$env:APPDATA\KOOK"
Test-Path "HKCU:\Software\KaiHeiLa"
- No output from
Get-Processonly means this query observed no matching process; a suppressed error leaves the running state unknown. - A completed
winget listquery with no match means the package record is gone; a matching row means the uninstall did not finish. Test-Path "$env:LOCALAPPDATA\KOOK"returningFalsemeans the program folder is gone;Truemeans files remain there.Test-Path "$env:APPDATA\KOOK"returningTruemeans your login and settings are still there, which is expected unless you removed them.Test-Path "HKCU:\Software\KaiHeiLa"returningTruemeans the key under KOOK's former name is still there; remove it yourself if you want.
Account
Uninstalling does not delete your KOOK account, leave any server, or cancel a membership. Manage those in KOOK itself or on the web.
What Mole lists
For KOOK installed per-user through winget:
- The program folder goes with the app row. The desktop shortcut, the Start Menu folder and a row grouping Windows' own records of when you opened the program are selected by default.
%APPDATA%\KOOKis listed but not selected, since it holds your login and settings. Its caches and logs (Cache,Code Cache,GPUCache,Crashpad, the Dawn caches andlogs) are listed on their own and selected.HKCU\Software\KOOKis listed but not selected.- The
kook://link is selected by default when it still points at the removed program, and backed up to a.regfile before removal. - The two firewall rules are reported after the uninstall and never removed.
HKCU\Software\KaiHeiLais not listed; check it yourself after the uninstall.SquirrelTempis never listed.
What this test covered
Tested on 2026-09-28 with KOOK 0.107.3 installed through winget, per-user scope, without signing in. Mole ran the uninstaller silently, but it still showed its confirmation and completion windows, which were clicked by hand with the login box left unticked. Every listed row was ticked and removed in this test. Not verified: a signed-in client, voice channels, or the "also delete the cached login" box.
