How to uninstall Kitten Editor on Windows
Kitten Editor 4.0 (源码编辑器4.0, from Codemao) saves the projects you create wherever you chose, or in your Codemao account if you saved them online; uninstalling the editor does not touch either. Save any open work and make sure projects you care about are saved to a file or to your account first. This guide covers Kitten Editor installed machine-wide with the vendor's installer from the Codemao.kitten.4 winget manifest; it shows in Settings as 源码编辑器4.0.
Quit the editor first
Close every editor window. It is an Electron app and runs several 源码编辑器4.0.exe processes; check Task Manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc) that none is still listed before you uninstall. The editor added no startup item in this test.
Remove the app with its own uninstaller
Go to Settings › Apps › Installed apps, find 源码编辑器4.0, and choose Uninstall, or run:
winget uninstall --id Codemao.kitten.4
The uninstaller asks for administrator access, since the editor was installed for all users.
Where the data lives
| Location | What it holds | What to do |
|---|---|---|
Program Files\kitten4-desktop |
Program files | The uninstaller removes it |
%APPDATA%\electron_for_kitten4 |
The editor's settings, login state and local data | Keep it if you plan to reinstall; otherwise remove it |
%LOCALAPPDATA%\electron_for_kitten4-updater |
Downloaded update installers | Safe to remove |
HKCU\Software\Classes\kitten4-client |
The kitten4-client:// link that opens the editor from the website |
Safe to remove once the editor is gone |
| Public Start Menu and desktop shortcuts | Shortcuts for all users | The uninstaller removes them |
Check the result
Run these read-only commands after the uninstall finishes:
Get-Process 源码编辑器4.0 -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue
winget list --id Codemao.kitten.4
Test-Path "$env:ProgramFiles\kitten4-desktop"
Test-Path "$env:APPDATA\electron_for_kitten4"
Test-Path "HKCU:\Software\Classes\kitten4-client"
- No output from
Get-Processonly means this query observed no matching process; a suppressed error leaves the running state unknown. - A completed
winget listquery with no match means the package record is gone; a matching row means the uninstall did not finish. Test-Pathon the program folder returningTruemeans the folder is still there; in one run of this test it stayed behind empty, and an empty folder is safe to remove.Test-Path "$env:APPDATA\electron_for_kitten4"returningTruemeans the editor's settings and local data are still there, which is expected unless you removed them yourself.Test-Path "HKCU:\Software\Classes\kitten4-client"returningTruemeans the link still points at the removed program; remove it yourself if you want.
Account
Uninstalling does not delete your Codemao account or the works saved in it.
What Mole lists
For Kitten Editor installed machine-wide with the vendor's installer:
- The public Start Menu and desktop shortcuts are selected by default.
%APPDATA%\electron_for_kitten4is listed but not selected, since it holds the editor's settings and local data.%LOCALAPPDATA%\electron_for_kitten4-updater, which holds only downloaded installers, is selected by default.Program Files\kitten4-desktopis not listed on its own; the uninstaller removes it. Thekitten4-clientlink is not listed either, so check it yourself after the uninstall.
What this test covered
Tested on 2026-09-28 with Kitten Editor 4.11.7, the x86 build running under emulation on an ARM64 PC, installed machine-wide from the vendor's installer in the winget manifest; a rerun on 2026-09-29 confirmed the program folder part. The NSIS uninstaller ran silently, and every listed row was ticked and removed in this test. Not verified: a signed-in Codemao account, saved projects, or an x64 PC.
