How to uninstall Kdenlive on Windows
This guide covers the official Kdenlive 26.08.1 Windows installer. Save your video projects and quit Kdenlive before uninstalling.
Back up settings and data first
After quitting the app, copy any data folder you want to keep to another location and check the copy. These locations were observed in this test; keep your own projects and files separate.
| Location | Contents | What to do |
|---|---|---|
%LOCALAPPDATA%\kdenlive |
Application data | Keep for reuse; remove only to reset |
%LOCALAPPDATA%\kdenliverc |
Application settings | Keep for reuse; remove only to reset |
Remove the app
Uninstall Kdenlive from Settings › Apps › Installed apps. Its program folder is %ProgramFiles%\Kdenlive.
Check the result
Test-Path "$env:ProgramFiles\Kdenlive"
Test-Path "$env:LOCALAPPDATA\kdenlive"
Test-Path "$env:LOCALAPPDATA\kdenliverc"
Test-Path "$env:ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Kdenlive"
Test-Path returns False when that exact path is absent and True when it still exists. A data path returning True is expected if you kept your settings or data. If a query reports an error, resolve it before deciding whether the path is absent.

What Mole lists
The program folder, cache, Start menu shortcuts and usage records are selected by default. %LOCALAPPDATA%\kdenlive and the preferences file %LOCALAPPDATA%\kdenliverc start unchecked for review; bulk selection can include them. Leave both rows unchecked to retain settings.
Windows keeps the .kdenlive extension registration and machine-wide KDE registrations. Mole does not offer video projects as leftovers.
What this test covered
Tested on October 6, 2026, in a Windows 11 ARM64 VM with a Mole development build. All four paths returned False after the measured bulk uninstall, which included the review rows. The native Apps list no longer showed Kdenlive, and a successful process inventory contained no program from its folder. Real video projects, an external uninstall and a released Mole package were not tested.
