How to uninstall Hoppscotch on Windows
Export the collections and environments you need before removing Hoppscotch. The desktop app keeps its local state, request history and keys in two folders named io.hoppscotch.desktop, and neither the uninstaller nor Mole's review removes them, so they are yours to back up or clear by hand. This guide covers Hoppscotch installed machine-wide from the hoppscotch.Hoppscotch winget package. Hoppscotch collections
Quit Hoppscotch first
Close the Hoppscotch window, then check Task Manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc) for any hoppscotch-desktop.exe still listed before you uninstall.
Remove the app with its own uninstaller
Go to Settings › Apps › Installed apps, find Hoppscotch, and choose Uninstall, or run:
winget uninstall --id hoppscotch.Hoppscotch
It is a Windows Installer package installed for all users, so Windows asks for administrator approval and then removes it with a progress bar and no questions.
Where the data lives
| Location | What it holds | What to do |
|---|---|---|
%ProgramFiles%\Hoppscotch |
Program files | The uninstaller removes it |
%APPDATA%\io.hoppscotch.desktop |
Local store, backups, bundles, keys and window state | Export what you need first, then remove it for a clean start |
%LOCALAPPDATA%\io.hoppscotch.desktop |
The embedded browser's data and logs | Safe to remove once the app is gone |
HKCU\Software\hoppscotch |
App settings | Remove for a clean start |
| Two Windows Firewall rules named Hoppscotch | Network permission granted on first run | Remove in Windows Defender Firewall › Advanced settings if you want them gone |
Check the result
Run these read-only commands after the uninstall finishes:
Get-Process hoppscotch-desktop -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue
winget list --id hoppscotch.Hoppscotch
Test-Path "$env:ProgramFiles\Hoppscotch"
Test-Path "$env:APPDATA\io.hoppscotch.desktop"
Test-Path "$env:LOCALAPPDATA\io.hoppscotch.desktop"
Get-NetFirewallRule -DisplayName "*Hoppscotch*" -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue
- No output from
Get-Processonly means this query observed no matching process; a suppressed error leaves the running state unknown. - A completed
winget listquery with no match means the package record is gone; a matching row means the uninstall did not finish. Test-Path "$env:ProgramFiles\Hoppscotch"returningFalsemeans the program folder is gone.- The two
io.hoppscotch.desktopchecks returningTruemean your local data is still there, which is expected until you remove it yourself. Get-NetFirewallRulelisting rules means the firewall entries are still there; no matching output from a confirmed successful query means they are gone.
If you installed it with winget
winget uninstall runs the same Windows Installer removal Settings › Apps uses; it does not touch either io.hoppscotch.desktop folder.
Account and workspace
Uninstalling does not delete a Hoppscotch account or a cloud workspace. Anything synced to your account stays there and comes back when you sign in again.
What Mole lists
For Hoppscotch installed machine-wide from winget:
- The program folder, the Start Menu folder, the desktop shortcut and a row grouping Windows' own records of when you opened the program are selected by default.
HKCU\Software\hoppscotchis listed but not selected, and is backed up to a.regfile before removal if you tick it.- The two Windows Firewall rules are named in the result and left in place, since removing them needs an administrator.
%APPDATA%\io.hoppscotch.desktopand%LOCALAPPDATA%\io.hoppscotch.desktopare not listed; check them and remove them yourself after the uninstall.
What this test covered
Tested on September 28, 2026 with Hoppscotch 26.8.2 installed through winget, machine scope, on an ARM64 test VM. Every listed row was ticked and removed in this test. Not verified: signing in, a cloud workspace, and exporting or re-importing collections.
