How to uninstall Heroic Games Launcher on Windows
Games you installed through Heroic live in the folder you chose for them, not in the launcher, and uninstalling Heroic does not remove them; decide separately whether to keep that folder. Heroic's own data folder holds its settings and the sign-in state for your Epic, GOG and Amazon accounts, so back it up if you want the same setup after reinstalling. This guide covers Heroic Games Launcher installed machine-wide from the HeroicGamesLauncher.HeroicGamesLauncher winget package.
Quit Heroic first
Stop any running game and download, then quit Heroic from its tray icon or window menu. Heroic runs several processes, so check Task Manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc) for any Heroic.exe still listed before you uninstall.
Remove the app with its own uninstaller
Go to Settings › Apps › Installed apps, find Heroic Games Launcher, and choose Uninstall, or run:
winget uninstall --id HeroicGamesLauncher.HeroicGamesLauncher
The package installs machine-wide, so Windows asks for administrator access. The uninstaller runs silently and removes the program folder and shortcuts.
Where the data lives
| Location | What it holds | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| The games folder you chose in Heroic | Installed games | Keep it if you may reinstall the games; it is yours to delete |
%APPDATA%\heroic |
Settings, library data and account sign-in state | Back it up if you want your setup after reinstalling; remove it for a clean start |
Cache, Code Cache, GPUCache, DawnGraphiteCache and DawnWebGPUCache inside it |
Caches | Safe to remove |
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Heroic |
A small folder with logs | Safe to remove |
%LOCALAPPDATA%\heroic-updater |
Downloaded update installers | Safe to remove |
Check the result
Run these read-only commands after the uninstall finishes:
Get-Process Heroic -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue
winget list --id HeroicGamesLauncher.HeroicGamesLauncher
Test-Path "${env:ProgramFiles(x86)}\Heroic"
Test-Path "$env:APPDATA\heroic"
Test-Path "$env:LOCALAPPDATA\heroic-updater"
- No output from
Get-Processonly means this query observed no matching process; a suppressed error leaves the running state unknown. - A completed
winget listquery with no match means the package record is gone; a matching row means the uninstall did not finish. - The first
Test-PathreturningFalsemeans the program folder is gone. Test-Path "$env:APPDATA\heroic"returningTruemeans your settings are still there, which is expected unless you removed them yourself.Test-Path "$env:LOCALAPPDATA\heroic-updater"returningTruemeans downloaded installers are still there; they are safe to remove.
If you installed it with winget
winget uninstall runs the same silent uninstaller Settings › Apps uses and removes the same program files; it does not touch %APPDATA%\heroic, the updater cache or your games.
Accounts and games
Uninstalling does not sign you out of Epic Games, GOG or Amazon on their own sites, and the games you own stay in those accounts.
What Mole lists
For Heroic installed machine-wide from winget:
- The program folder goes with the app row. The Start Menu and public desktop shortcuts and a row grouping Windows' own records of when you opened the program are selected by default.
%APPDATA%\heroicis listed but not selected, since it holds your settings and sign-in state. The caches inside it are listed on their own and selected by default.%LOCALAPPDATA%\Heroicis listed but not selected; thelogsfolder inside it is selected by default.%LOCALAPPDATA%\heroic-updater, which holds only downloaded installers, is selected by default.- A
heroic://link registration that still points at the removed program is selected by default and backed up to a.regfile before removal. - Your games folder is not listed.
What this test covered
Tested on September 27, 2026 with Heroic Games Launcher 2.22.3 installed through winget, machine scope, and removed with its silent uninstaller. Every listed row was ticked and removed in this test. No store account was signed in and no game was installed, so removing an install with games was not verified.
